Episodes

  • 181: Oktoberfest 4

    25/09/2018

We open with... the Podcast Pitch? Jeremy talks about two hot button podcasts that he has been listening to. We then move on to an extended edition of beer brag, where Michael recounts a set of brews he had from Door County Brewing and Jeremy talks Hero IPAs from Revolution that he had in Chicago. Jeremy talks more of his Chicago travels, Oktoberfest brews, and some big beer hijinks that left him disappointed. Finally, we get into the FDR where we try an Oktoberfest style beer from Wisconsin. We are actually on time this year.Beer in this episode: O'so O-toberfestCheers!

  • 180: Double Necked Beer Bottle

    18/09/2018

Getting right into it, Michael brags about a Neopolitan Stout, but what is this? Good News! Cigarette Juice! Jeremy and his crew take home second place in the pub trivia championship. He celebrates with a Galaxy and Citra hopped brew and a boozed up Ginger Beer. Then we begin the interview with a daywalker. • 179: The End of Jabroni Summer

    11/09/2018

We open up on the aisle with a surprise movie discussion. Then the beer brags arrive, which include a citra nitro lager, Jeremy messing with a recip, Sierra Nevada's collabo Oktoberfest, and a bad apple ale. Next we get into some articles we saw on vinepair.com, one on bottle sizes and the other on the best selling beers in the nation. Last on deck is the FDR, where a brew intrigues the hosts on a level not seen in awhile.Beer in this episode: Karben4 Simply, DustyCheers!

  • 178: Ekuanot, Pronounced "Ekuanot"

    03/09/2018

Officially back in the studio, we kick it off with some beer brags. Jeremy finds joy in a Kolsch from Surly, whereas Michael had an amber he didn't really like that much and a weird gose at pub trivia. Michael quizzes Jeremy with tiebreaker questions before opening up the American Pale Male Mail Pail. We discuss TG brewing for HV, then discuss a video from a popular YouTube franchise involving cheap American Beer. Finally, we get into the FDR where we go back to Reunion again. This time it's personal. We also find out about Ekuanot.Beer in this episode: Reunion Tank PuncherCheers!

  • 177: Disastercast

    27/08/2018

Yes, this title is similar to an earlier episode... we sort of piecemealed this one together. This is a couple of live recordings stitched together with studio interstitials. Caveats abound we jump into Jeremy and a goosey Michael talking Phantasm while watching a wrestling match. We still manage to be moderately successful at some Mikes vs. Machine trivia and we even sneak in an FDR. After cutting away, we return to a brief recording at the Sanctuary in Iowa City, where we are wrapping up spinning yarns over some Oktoberfest beer. I guess it is another FDR. Why not?Beer in this episode: Iowa Beer Company Spicoli, Ayinger Oktober Fest-MarzenCheers!

  • 176: The Big Bee Reunion

    21/08/2018

In a multi-location episode, we start off in Jeremy's recording studio, trying out his homebrew "Rye, Cheat, Steal". We spin for a while about brewing, as Michael wants to try to get into the game again. Next, we throw to ourselves at Reunion Brewery in Iowa City as we each sample a flight of their brews.Beer in this episode: Reunion Brewery FlightCheers!

  • 175: Return of the Book Club

    14/08/2018

Ah, most of this episode revolves around us discussing the book Barrel-Aged Stout and Selling Out by Josh Noel. We do manage to get in beer brags at the beginning, but even an exceptional FDR is overshadowed by our enthusiasm. It of in itself is tangentially related to the book. Also included is an informal poll Jeremy conducted in response to what he read.Beer in this episode: OrvalCheers!

  • 174: Duck, Duck, Grey Duck

    07/08/2018

Uh oh. We wade into "current" events as Jeremy's beloved Toppling Goliath pulls a jerk move. But before that, beer brags. Michael had a refreshing Amarillo hopped summer beer and some Old Engine Oil. Jeremy touts some brews he had while at trivia, including the 2015 vintage of Breakfast Stout. Michael entices Jeremy by giving a sneak peek at the first few chapters of Barrel-Aged Stout and Selling Out. Then we talk Toppling Goliath vs. Thew, without expertise, or really arriving at a precise conclusion. Finally, it is time for the FDR, which comes with a few diversions - a pop quiz and a podcast pitch.Beer in this episode: Ale Asylum HopaliciousCheers!

  • 173: Podcast-A-Rita

    30/07/2018

We get in too deep in this ep, unraveling the conspiracies of the brewing industry. But first! Beer brags. Michael had a locally made tripel and Jeremy had BCBS. This leads into Goose Island chat then subsequently opening the door to the cellar where the walls are covered in bulletin boards laden with photos, articles, and yarn connecting them all. Next up, donuts and the Simpsons. Followed by, the FDR... which happens to be part of our bulletin board. There is no escape.Beer in this episode: Elysian DayglowCheers!

  • 172: Dunk the 5

    24/07/2018

This episode is all about beer. Yes. Michael kicks it off with a elite beer brag of Gulden Draak that did not taste like he last recalled. Jeremy replies with his own brag, which is not a dubbel, not a tripel, but a quadrupel beer brag, going through the status Broken Elbow Ale, an update on Brut IPAs, a sessionable Russian imperial stout, and finally ending with a limited edition Kolsch from New Belgium. This leads into two articles, both on tasting and ranking brews: one from hardworking landscapers and the other with brewmasters. Next is the FDR, where a stout from a flat state gives us a debate.Beer in this episode: Tallgrass Buffalo SweatCheers!

  • 171: Salty, Soury, Celeryey

    17/07/2018

Things get weird in this one. Michael starts off with a beer brag, finally getting his hands on a Brut IPA, this one from Working Draft. Very interestingly weird. Jeremy one ups the weirdness by having a notable gose from Pipeworks. Michael clocks in as an investigative journalist and attends a weird beer event. Jeremy pitches a couple of podcasts and then talks weird explotation films. Finally, it is time for the FDR and through some weirding, we are having a winter seasonal brew in the middle of summer.Beer in this episode: Millstream Raspberry Latte AleCheers!

  • 170: Jerembacca in Hell

    09/07/2018

How will it fare against the original? The week in geek returns with talk about SOLO (bolo), leading into an impromptu Jerembacca on the Aisle movie discussion. GLOW is recommended and so are a couple of podcasts as the Podcast Pitch also makes a sudden return. We run some errata on Brut IPAs, then get into the FDR. It was one "Hell" of a time. Blarf.Beer in this episode: Surly HellCheers!

  • 169: Rullepølse Analogy

    03/07/2018

Michael has a bittersweet beer brag/lamentation as he scores a victory in the penultimate trivia session hosted at his usual trivia spot. Meanwhile, Jeremy touts supreme on his beer from Oregon, including a new beer style, the Brut IPA. Will it sweep the nation like the Juicy IPA. Next, we check into the American Pale Male Mail Pail, where Mike sparks a conversation about lawnmower beers. Finally, it is time for the FDR. With an arsenal of analogies, we manage to break this one down.Beer in this episode: Magic Hat Zirkus BoyCheers!

  • 168: Freakazoid Lemon Thing

    26/06/2018

Always record. Michael briefly brags about the non-alcoholic Clausthaler he tried, before Jeremy gets into an extended brag about his trip to Alaska. Here he reveals the wonky world of Alaskan laws that apply to breweries, various destinations he went to, and of course the brews that he tried there. Michael queries him on the wildlife, sunlight, and weather. Next we move on to the FDR, where we continue our Super Summerian Series, trying out seasonal brews.Beer in this episode: Exile Lemon Trail (title of show does not refer to this beer *wink*)Cheers!

Michael comes back with his own beer brag, a tequila barrel aged cream ale (?) from Mobcraft. Next, we talk about the 10 worst beers as per vinepair.com and riff on our experiences with those. Finally it is off to the FDR, where we finally catch up with Haze Craze on the show.Beer in this episode: New Beligum Voodoo Range Juicy Haze IPACheers!

We hit up beer brags where Michael is having a flowery IPA and Steve recounts PC Pils as an antidote for wrangling with an umbrella. 22/05/2018
