  • Is SBC Provisionism Semi-Pelagianism???

    28/02/2020 Duration: 42min

Both Calvinists and Arminians agree that the Bible teaches total inability. How they differ is on the nature of grace needed to overcome that spiritual deadness. For the Calvinist, the grace is sovereignly given only to the elect and ensures they will come to faith. For the Arminian, it is a prevenient grace given to all people and can be resisted. Yet...SBC Provisionists deny total inablity and assert that the only grace needed is the mere presentation of the gospel which in and of itself is sufficient to enable a positive response. Is this semi-Pelagianism? We need to be very careful how we label or mischaracterize those with whom we disagree. Dr. Sean Cole gives quotes from Arminian scholars to show how they agree with Calviniists on this issue. He also attempts to explain the SBC Provisionist view of man's sinfulness. www.seancole.net

  • Romans 11 All Israel will be Saved?

    30/01/2020 Duration: 01h18min

In Romans 9, Paul argued that God’s word had not failed even though ethnic Jews were rejecting Jesus as their Messiah. Ethnic identity does not automatically guarantee salvation. God has a sovereign right to predestine or show mercy to whomever He wants. In Chapter 10, we saw the power of the gospel call. People have to hear in order to be saved. They need to call on the Name of the Lord. If Chapter 9 focused on God’s sovereignty in salvation, Chapter 10 focused on human responsibility—the Jews were stubborn and refused to call on the name of Jesus to be saved. Here’s the huge question Chapter 11 answers: Is this a permanent situation for ethnic Jews? Will they refuse the gospel forever? Will there be a large number of Jews saved one day like the Gentiles who are coming to faith in Christ in massive numbers? www.seancole.net
