God's plan for his people was that they would have a King to lead them and to set an example for them. King David was probably the greatest king in Israel's history ... but was really only a shadow of the Kingship that Jesus would exercise.

Genesis 1-11 gives the story of the whole world. But in Genesis 12 the focus narrows to one man (Abraham) and the promises God made to him. Promises that will dominate the rest of the Bible. Promises that will find their fulfillment in Jesus.

Genesis 3 is the chapter of the Bible that you have to understand in order to make sense of the rest of the Bible. It explains why our world is the way it is. It explains why we are the way we are.

The opening chapters of the Bible tell us clearly who made the world, what kind of world it is and what our place is in this creation.

What are you searching for in life? What is it that you would give everything for? Jesus tells us what the treasure is we should be searching for.

Jesus finishes the sermon on the Mount with the challenge that there are two ways to live - two gates, two trees and two foundations.

Jesus says that we are not to be judgemental of others … but we are to be discerning. If we are serious about being faithful followers of Jesus … all you have to do is pray.

The Christian life is to be lived in dependance upon God and recognising that the greatest wealth we have is our relationship with God and heaven itself.

God doesn't want people who go through the "religious motions" or who do things to be noticed and praised by others. He wants people who know him as their heavenly father and then live that way.

Jesus shows that being part of the Kingdom involves an obedience that goes all the way to the heart … not just superficial legalistic law-keeping.

In the Beattitudes Jesus radically redefines what it means to be "blessed" (approved) by God. Approval by God is about recognising our spiritual poverty and humbly accepting what God gives us.

This is the very beginning of Jesus' ministry … and shows a lot about the nature of what he has come to do. Jesus faces temptations from Satan, calls people to repent, calls the disciples to work with him, and proclaims that the kingdom has come.

Jesus has come and his coming means that the kingdom is near. But this also means that judgement is near. What God wants from us is repentance … and lives that bear the fruit of repentance.

Matthew 1-2 tells us about the birth of Jesus, his genealogy, and most importantly the names he was given: Jesus (God Saves) and Immanuel (God With Us).

This is a Parable with a very clear setting. Jesus is about to arrive in Jerusalem and he wants to tell his disciples how they are to live while waiting for his return as King.

This is the first parable Jesus tells in each of the Gospels. It is the parable that explains the different response that Jesus and his disciples will get to the preaching of the good news of the Kingdom.
