Synopsis

Every teacher has a story and we want to help them tell it. Welcome to the VALUE ADDS VALUE Podcast where we hope to create a platform to facilitates connections among teachers through our shared experiences. We hope to inspire teachers and help them to find the value of our craft. Every uniquely gifted teacher brings their own experiences and talents to the classroom; and we share many of the same struggles and successes in the profession. Teachers make up about 1% of the U.S. population, and we have an impact on the remaining 99%. There is power in that truth, power in our stories, and power in our craft. We strive to bring the voices of educators, who through their stories can inspire others and help them add value to their teaching craft. Find us on Instagram and Twitter @valueaddsvalue!

  • #32: Being Culturally Responsive/w Naomi O'brien

    19/07/2019 Duration: 38min

Hey Y'all! We wanted to share this episode we recorded last summer with Naomi with because it seems so much more relevant now than it did when we recorded it. We are seeing examples everyday in our country of what our students of color face and we all must do our part to make changes and serve every student. What does it take to create cultural relevancy for students? If you were Naomi O'Brien growing up it was simply to have a teacher ask you about who you are and what you like. On this episode Naomi (Instagram: @readlikearockstar) talks about how her educational experience impact how she strives to connect with her early elementary students today. When asked what the one thing every student should be taught she responded with the ability to know what they need and how to ask for it. And she strives to do that with her kids and works with them on the language needed to ask for things. We also had the chance to chat how to put language to social justice issues for both students and teachers. Naomi says tha

  • #28: Why We Chose Patreon To Build Our Community

    07/07/2019 Duration: 41min

Some of you may not know this, but we created our non-profit Lighthouse Educator Development long before we created our podcast. We started it with the dream that every student in America would have the teacher they deserve in every classroom from K-12 and the mission to achieve it by adding value to the teaching craft. Over the four years we've been working together on LED we have tried to get our work into the hands of teachers and schools, but it is a difficult hill to climb. WE have started the podcast to share our conversation two years ago and now we have found a platform to build our community. The professional development work that we do is now available to teachers at patreon.com/valueaddsvalue! We are licensed through the state of Texas to provide professional development and our Patreon page will give teachers options of how many hours they would like to spend working with us. More importantly it allows teachers to "do PD on their own terms." Patreon also allows us to be monetarily supported for

  • #27: Leverage Student Relationships to Create Student Leaders

    30/06/2019 Duration: 43min

Thanks for checking out this episode of the Value Adds Value Podcast! We loved being in the same room when record podcasts and in this episode we talk about how our relationships with students impact the leaders they will become. If you listen to this podcast you know that we believe there is nothing more important for a teacher to succeed than their ability to build, maintain and leverage their relationships. Building relationships is the easy part, maintain them is more difficult, but being able to leverage them is the most difficult challenge for teachers. When you have built and maintained relationships with kids you still are using some degree of authority to get them to do things, but when you have built relationships that are deep enough to leverage you then are able to move kids through influence rather than authority. If you want to hear more about what we mean take a listen to this episode, and if you love it please hit the subscribe button!! Also if you are interested our exclusive offer with N

    15/06/2019 Duration: 34min

Hey everybody! After a couple week delay the podcast is back. We had to take some time to refocus our energies and set our goals for the second half of 2019. With that comes push back from those who don't share that belief, so we want you to be prepared for it! We hope you enjoy this episode! EXCITING NEWS! 16/05/2019 Duration: 14min

I got a rejection email on earlier this week from a school that I thought I had done amazing in the interview with. I posted it on Instagram with a few thoughts on how it doesn't define me as a teacher and person, so on this episode I talk about the response I got from the teaching community! Especially a lengthy conversation I had with Heather Planchon (@theprimaryparty)... Thanks for listening! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/valueaddsvalue/support
