Synopsis

At a time when political polarization, dysfunction, and confusion seem to be at an all-time high, and when noise and static seem to be drowning out sane discourse … the Wiki Politiki Radio Show offers a heartening alternative: Fun, laughter, constructive conversation, and insight. Its purpose is to cultivate the wisdom of many perspectives, and create generative conversations to help us work together to find real solutions to the problems we face … or as Swami would say, “Let’s bring left and right front and center to turn the funk into function, and leave the junk at the junction.” Each week on the Wiki Politiki Radio Show, host Steve Bhaerman (also known as cosmic comic Swami Beyondananda) will bring two “visionary, solutionary” voices to the show to offer their viewpoints, and then collaborate to find a wiser way forward. We’re not expecting our guests to agree about everything. That would be boring and unproductive! We do expect that by speaking clearly and listening respectfully, there will be some “Aha’s” and new pathways for co-creation. And there will be plenty of ha-ha’s as well, as Steve and Swami bring much-needed humor to the political landscape. Even though the show is called Wiki Politiki, the topics and guests will represent a wide range of fields — from spirituality and psychology to economy and ecology, health and wellbeing, and of course, politics. The politics will not focus on the entrenched and clichéd conversations between polarized tribes, but rather on the “meta-issues” that help us rise above and see from a higher perspective. Chase Palmieri – Crowd-Sourcing the News: Start-Up “Credder” Turns Readers Into ReviewersAiring Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 2:00 PM PST / 5:00 PM ESTInterview with Chase Palmieri, Co-Founder of Credder“Love lives in our heart, beliefs lie in our head.” — Swami BeyondanandaAt a time when disinformation, misinformation and missing information characterizes much of the news, and the trust in media is at an all-time low, might it be time to access the “wisdom of crowds”?Our Wiki Politiki guest this week, Chase Palmieri, thinks so. He and his partner, Austin Walter, have founded a new platform, Credder, that they’ve branded “Rotten Tomatoes” for the news. Credder – rooted obviously in the word “credibility” — allows readers to review articles for veracity and bias, and then post these reviews on the Credder site. Writers are then rated on these criteria, and reviewers too are held accountable by THEIR ratings. The site says:We believe news should compete for credibility, not clicks. Steve Wagner – All You Need Is Myth – Can the “Soundtrack of Our Time” Help Us Heal the Shadow and See the Light?Aired Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 2:00 PM PST / 5:00 PM ESTInterview with Music Mythologist Steve Wagner, author of “All You Need Is Myth: The Beatles and the Gods of Rock”“Of course love is more powerful than fear. Otherwise we’d be singing ‘All You Need is Fear.” — Swami BeyondanandaIn his study of “spontaneous remission,” Dr. Lewis Mehl-Madrona suggested that these unexplained anomalous healings were often accompanied by what he called a “change of story.” Given the dire “shituation” we as a civilization, a species and a world find ourselves in, maybe we need a collective change of story, a “spontaneous remissioning” so to speak. So … where might we go to find such a story?Hint: All you need is love. Our guest this week, “music mythologist” Steve Wagner offers an interesting and compelling thesis: That during the latter half of the 20th century, mythology “came alive” as the ancient archetypes c

Visioning A Better America – A Citizens Conference Held in the Halls of Congress April 6th-10th, 2020Aired Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 2:00 PM PST / 5:00 PM ESTInterview with Consultant and Conference Convener Richard Margolies“If you don’t like the current programming, turn off your TV and tell-a-vision instead.” — Swami BeyondanandaIn these most contentious times, what if there were a way for “we the people” to gather above and beyond the battlefield conversation and focus on the common purpose we share? The Bible says where there is no vision, the people perish. And at this moment, our democratic republic looks awfully perishable. Fortunately, a paradigm-breaking conference happening in Washington, D.C. this April looks to – in the Swami’s words – “bring left and right front and center to face the music and dance together.”As the conference website says, only citizens can change society:“The purpose of the conference is to create a conversation about what we as a people and as a nation can become.”Another

Robert Strock – Awareness That Heals – Cultivating the Internal Resources For External ChallengesAired Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 2:00 PM PST / 5:00 PM ESTInterview with Psychologist and Educator Robert Strock, Author of “Awareness That Heals”“We all have the wherewithal for change. Having the aware-with-all is the all-important first step.” — Swami BeyondanandaOne of my favorite cartoons of all time is a two-panel piece that I first saw in a psychotherapist’s waiting room. In the first panel, a boy being swept under in a raging river calls out to his dog, “Lassie, get help!”In the second panel we see Lassie on a psychiatrist’s couch. We are living in the “self-help” generation, and yet so much of this self-help comes from outside ourselves. Well, what if we actually DID develop the inner resources to be truly helpful to ourselves? What if we able to find and cultivate an inner voice that is wise and loving, gentle yet firm, that speaks softly yet with authority? And what if this voice can provide comfort an

Norman Solomon – The Oligarchs Among Us – The Battle for the Soul of the Democratic PartyAired Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 2:00 PM PST / 5:00 PM ESTInterview with Journalist, Author and Media Critic Norman Solomon“We have two political parties in this country – the Democratic Party and the un-democratic party.” — Swami BeyondanandaIf they saw what the Republican Party has devolved to, Republican icons like Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, and even Barry Goldwater would flip in their crypts. The blatant heartlessness, self-centered short-sightedness, and downright insanity of a political party that has become a toxic cult, would certainly make the Democrats seem like a sane and viable alternative, right?Well, here’s the elephant – and donkey – in the living room. In a political system where it costs the average Senator $14,000 to finance their re-election campaign, the oligarchs have a well-established foothold in that party too.Our guest on Wiki Politiki this week, journalist, activist an

Many became politically active for the first time, joining in the various “resist” movements, and becoming involved in supporting “battleground state” campaigns in the 2018 Midterm elections. This being a Presidential election year, everyone is focused on the national election and the national issues – but maybe there is a more fertile field to cultivate. Our guest this week, veteran activist and consultant Lenore Goldman, shows us where the REAL change takes place – the grassroots, particularly statehouse elections. At a time when the power of money overwhelmingly controls the air

Establishment candidates like Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and even Ted Cruz fell by the wayside, and the Republican establishment had to fall in line behind the people’s choice, Donald Trump. As MIT professor Otto Scharmer (http://mitsloanexperts.mit.edu/on-the-making-of-trump-the-blind-spot-that-created-him-otto-scharmer/) pointed out after the election, American voters had three choices in 2016: Move forward together, stay with the status quo, or move backward. And at the top of the endangered species list, whether we accept it or not, is our own species. And yet we want to imagine that life will go on “as usual.”Meanwhile, the two sides have retreated to their respective corners

The amount is larger than the GDPs of such countries as Brazil, the U.K., Mexico, Spain, and Canada. And yet, we rank 27th in the world in health. In a study of 11 countries, the U.S. ranked LAST for health outcomes, equity and quality, despite having the highest per capita health earnings. The U.S. also had the highest rate of mortality amenable to healthcare, meaning more Americans die from poor care quality than any other country involved in the study. And, it get

Fresco – who was featured in the documentary — was a visionary futurist and designer dedicated to a “peaceful and sustainable global civilization”. Fresco died in 2017 at the age of 101, and his “work of heart”, the Venus Project lives on, the subject of a new documentary film, A World Worth Imagining: Jacque Fresco The Man With the Plan. https://www.thevenusproject.com/We are pleased to welcome as our guest on Wiki Politiki this week, Jacque Fresco’s partner and co-founder of the Venus Project, Roxanne Meadows. There is a better way. I say let’s toilet change the world and we’ll never have to change it again.” — Swami BeyondanandaWhen sane and reverent people look at our current political, ecological “shituation”, it is understandable if they ask, “Is this the hand of God at work – or just the Middle Finger”?Our guest on Wiki Politiki this week, Stephan A. Schwartz – who has spent a lifetime delving into physical and metaphysical reality – offers a deep perspective on the challenges we face individually, collectively and indeed as a species as we address the key questions for transformation: What’s so? So what? Now what?Stephan A. Schwartz is an award-winning author of fiction and non-fiction, a columnist for the

When we consider the “surprise” movements of the last decade – the Tea Party and Occupy, and even the Trump and Bernie Sanders campaigns, as well as the Yellow Vest movement in France – we see that when indivi

The poor people all have surrendered.” — Swami BeyondanandaIn the wake of Hillary’s DOA campaign for President in 2016, there were two conflicting “autopsy” reports. Those who supported Bernie maintain that Hillary was such a turn off that many disgusted young voters stayed home, voted for Jill Stein, or even switched teams to vote for Trump. (Yes, I do know some who voted for Bernie in the primaries, Trump in the general election.)Then there are the Hillary supporters who are enraged at those who failed to rally behind Hillary, laying the atrocities of the Trump regime squarely at the feet of the “Bernie or bust” crowd.Maybe instead of asking, “Who’s right?” we might want to ask, “What’s wrong?”Berniecrats maintain that the 2016 election was a for

His award-winning film Gasland (2010) exposed the “gaslighting” by the fossil fuel companies in their attempt to sell “fracking” — defined as “the process of injecting liquid at high pressure into subterranean rocks, boreholes, etc. so as to force open existing fissures and extract oil or gas.”Fox’s claims that fracking polluted ground water and caused earthquakes made him the target of a $100 million smear campaign on the part of the gas industry. Writes Josh, “This campaign of misinformation and slander was run by people we have heard quite a bit about in recent times: Steve Bannon, Andrew Breitbart, James O’Keefe and others

So I recommend slowing instead.” — Swami BeyondanandaReady or not, 5G is here.5G stands for “fifth generation cellular technology” which promises to deliver data rates that are 10 to 100 times faster than current 4G. Not only does this mean much faster download rates, but 5G will also enable new technologies like self-driving cars and augmented reality. Mobile devices will be able to send and receive information in less than one-thousandth of a second, appearing instantaneous to the user.Wow. Faster internet, faster downloads on our smart phones … Fast, fast, fast.Well … not so fast, say some concerned citizens and scientists. And now at a time when dissatisfaction with our “leaders” is at an all-time high, we might consider that leadership must now evolve to activating many different varieties of leadership talents. Our guests on Wiki Politiki this week, Karen and Henry Kimsey-House, have spent the past three decades coaching and teaching leadership that “harnesses the possibility of many rather than relying on the power of one.”They write:“Top-down, one-dimensional leadership models are hopelessly outmoded in today’s rapidly changing world, and they waste

Others – people of color, the LGBT community, women, those concerned about climate change – have seen some of their worst fears realized over the past two years. Beginning with the women’s march in January 2017, large numbers of people have been mobilized against Trumpism – and yet, there is still a feeling of powerlessness and despair.Although resisting T

You should never see them made.”In other words, if we actually understood how and why banks do what they do, and how monetary policy is made – we’d never “swallow it”. Neither did I until I met this week’s guests Connie Baxter Marlow and Andrew Cameron Bailey some years ago, and they told me the inspiring story of how visionary leaders of two radically different cultures met and worked together to maintain an inter-cultural exchange that became what Bailey and Marlow call the “First Great Synthesis” between Europeans and American Indians.
