110: How Your Brain Processes Self-Talk | JASON HAMERA
20/02/2020 Duration: 31minYou know the little voice inside your head — the one you’ve carried around inside you since before you could remember? Call it what you will: your conscience, your subconscious, the inner you. This voice is a part of us, a part of who we are, and we self identify with that voice on an inherent level. Known as self-talk, this internal chatter can be cheerful and supportive or negative and self-defeating. This voice is useful when it is positive, talking down fears and bolstering confidence. Human nature is prone to negative self-talk, however, and to sweeping assertions like “I can’t do anything right” or “I’m a complete #failure."Negative self-talk often does not reflect one's reality, and can paralyze people into inaction and self-absorption. A critical inner voice may be driven by the desire to protect a person from the shame of failure. Some people even credit their inner critic with pushing them to develop self-discipline, and to recognize their weaknesses before others do so that they can address them he

102: Why is Everybody Depressed?
28/10/2019 Duration: 32minPodcast family this is a short deep dive into a conversation I had with my amazing friend Mark Metry. Something that has been on my mind for a while now. .Everywhere you look today, people are stressed out. Many reach a breaking point and sink into depression – a mental health issue few of our grandparents or great-grandparents experienced..Or is it?.Perhaps people 50 or 75 years ago just didn’t talk about depression, and didn’t seek treatment for it. After all, effective treatments weren’t exactly available back then. Maybe people today are more willing to admit to depression, and that’s why it looks like everyone is so stressed and depressed. That's one reason why many researchers are skeptical of the claim that mental health issues have become more common..Would love to know your thoughts! The Neuro Athletics Newsletter Instagram: @louisanicola_Twitter : @louisanicola_YouTube: @Louisa NicolaThe Neuro Experience Podcast is proud to have hosted: Dr Andrew Huberman, Dr Gabrielle Lyon, Dr Layne Norton, Thomas D

30/09/2019 Duration: 50minIf you’ve ever “gone with your gut” to make a decision or felt “butterflies in your stomach” when nervous, you’re likely getting signals from an unexpected source: your second brain. Hidden in the walls of the digestive system, this “brain in your gut” is revolutionizing medicine’s understanding of the links between digestion, mood, health and even the way you think. Scientists call this little brain the enteric nervous system (ENS). And it’s not so little. The ENS is two thin layers of more than 100 million nerve cells lining your gastrointestinal tract from esophagus to rectum. Knowing that the gut affects the brain and understanding the far-reaching role of the microbiome has led this week’s guest on The Neuro Experience to approach neurodegenerative conditions with a whole new perspective. Dr. Jay Lombard is an internationally acclaimed neurologist, author, and keynote speaker specializing in neuroimmunological conditions and medical mysteries.
