    06/03/2021 Duration: 02h03min

Manga Mavericks @ Movies continues our coverage of TMS’s newly-dubbed releases of Detective Conan movies by going back to the beginning - literally! That’s right, we’re covering Detective Conan Episode “One” - the 20th-anniversary anime special remaking the show’s first episode! This special was the first Detective Conan movie released on home video in the US in nearly a decade, and the first chance most people got to experience the new dub cast TMS has assembled for the series! This is also actually the first podcast covering these new dubbed Detective Conan movies we did; we recorded this when the special came out last July, but didn’t get around to editing it until recently. But with Detective Conan’s 1000th episode right around the corner, now’s the perfect time to release this podcast and revisit this retelling! Joining us are none other than the curators of the Weekly Shogakukan Edition Twitter and blog, Sakaki and Jecka! Together we share our thoughts on the new dub, including our favorite new voices

  • #Lum Squad #05: "Some Like It Hot Springs Emblem!"

    01/03/2021 Duration: 02h46min

Hello darlings! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura! Continuing our read-through of Viz’s rerelease of the manga, we cover volume 7! This volume prominently features Onsen-Mark... sorry, “Hot Springs Emblem.” We still need to get used to that. But hey, his name change may leave us cold but some like it Hot Springs Emblem so who are we to judge? Anyway, everyone’s favorite bewildered and beleaguered educator gets the spotlight in a lot of chapters this volume, building off of the Tomobiki High-centric stories and Teachers vs Students conflict established last time. But this volume also features the notable returns of some old frenemies - Kurama and Tobimaro! Coincidentally, both are out for Mendo's head - in more ways than one! Man, Mendo gets into a lot of trouble in this volume, doesn’t he? We also talk about the series’s pop culture references, color pages, character dynamics, and so much

It’s another showdown between Conan and his magician rival Phantom Thief Kid, but this time the infamous jewel thief is after… a painting? It’s up to Conan (and the viewers) to see through all the red herrings and figure out Kid’s artful scheme! In doing so, we must deduce the most important question of all: Is this film a genuine work of art, or another trash-fire like The Darkest Nightmare? There is always only one truth, and we’re here to tell it like it is! 01/02/2021 Duration: 02h15min

Hello, darlings! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura! We went back on an unexpected hiatus again last year, but hey, Viz’s second attempt to release UY in the 90s also unceremoniously stopped too. As they say, the third time’s the charm, and at least we’ve come back for our third try much faster than they did! Much like Viz’s regular releases of the series, we’re dedicated to resuming regular episodes of this podcast, which in our case will be monthly releases on the last friday of every month from here on out! We’ve already got some episodes banked and planned, and with more manga coming out and Discotek bringing the movies out later this year, there’ll always be plenty to talk about! Our plans for the next couple of episodes involve catching back up on the manga, starting with volume 6; the first volume featuring newly translated UY chapters from Viz in over 20 years! We excitedly discus

We had a lot of fun doing that with Kaiju No. 8 recently, and since Burn the Witch was such a big new series what with it being Tite Kubo’s follow-up to Bleach and all, we really wanted to have an in-depth conversation about it! We discuss Pancha, Jan, and Van
