    02/09/2019 Duration: 01h10min

  • Season 2 Ep. 3 - "The Dramaturg" : Our SMASH Secret

    29/07/2019 Duration: 01h46min

This week was an interesting one. This episode features an extended news section (skip to about 20 minutes in to get to the juicy SMASH recap) featuring everything from anthropomorphic cats to Lucy Liu. This weeks episode, The Dramaturg, has a lot of yikes moments, and introduces one of our least favourite characters in the whole series, but is fun nonetheless. Enjoy! Here are some of the links to what we discuss during our news segment: CATS Trailer (if you have not seen this yet, for some reason) Little Shop Revival Casting Announcement Patsy & Loretta Trailer Why Women Kill Trailer   Here is the Ford trailer we mention about halfway through the episode.   Follow on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Season 2 Ep. 2 - "The Fallout" : They Just Keep SMASHing the Line

    17/07/2019 Duration: 01h35min

This week we journey into the Chemistry of Season Two, Episode 2 - The Fallout. This episode has a lot of ups and downs: from a cooky cover of a Eurythmics song to one of our favourite Bombshell songs.  We're introduced to another important player in Season Two, and we hear our first Hit List song written by Cameron's sworn enemies. Plus, Harvey Fierstein! Enjoy!

  • Season 2 Ep. 1 - "On Broadway" : Cut, SMASH...Moving On

    08/07/2019 Duration: 01h45min

Hello everyone! Welcome back to Season Two of Mr. and Mr. SMASH! We are super excited to be back with our episode covering the season two premiere, On Broadway. This episode has a ton of new music to talk about, some great new characters, and one of the funniest so bad it's good scenes in the entire show. Even though this episode feels like it's eight hours long, it is super enjoyable and is definitely the calm before the storm that is SMASH season two. Enjoy!   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1.

  • Bonus - Top 5 Movie Musicals & Theatre Tag

    12/06/2019 Duration: 01h12min

Hello all! Enjoy this special 2-part bonus episode where we cover our favourite movie musicals and we 'complete' (is that the right word, who knows) the theatre tag. We had so much fun recording this and we hope you have fun listening. Thanks for listening to our Season One recaps. See you in July when we start Season Two.   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Episode 15 - "Bombshell" : Don't Forget SMASH

    10/06/2019 Duration: 01h51min

We're here. After weeks of trudging through some awful episodes, we have what might objectively be the best episode, the season one finale: Bombshell. This longer than usual episode features a discussion of Marilyn herself, as well as a recap of the whole season, in addition to our usual episode analysis. So much happens in this episode: confessing to attempted murder 8 minutes in, not a single pincurl in sight, and Cameron giving us all a lesson on actors equity contracts. And to top it all off, we get one of the best songs of the whole season (really of the whole show, but don't tell Hit List). And we do understand love, FYI.   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Episode 14 - "Previews" : SMASH!

    03/06/2019 Duration: 01h10min

This week SMASH takes us to church with episode 14: Previews. The most contrived conflict of them all takes centre stage, with our least favourite conflict from the beginning of the season making a return. We get a fabulous new original song, and also the end of Rebecca Duvall as we know it. Featuring a highly-anticipated rehash of some of our issues with the musicals' structure, and further growing anger at Derek. We're alone in Boston, dying.   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Episode 13 - "Tech" : No pun this week, 'cause it's tech

    27/05/2019 Duration: 01h35min

Contrived, and not so contrived drama, are the focus of this weeks episode, number 13: Tech. Featuring not one new original song, but some unfortunate rehashing of old ones. This episode has some Mr. and Mr. SMASH staples: weird prop mishaps in Julia and Frank’s house, Derek being really awful, and more bananas. We go in hard on the structural issues of the completed musical and the efficiency of the quick changes. Don’t propose this week, we can’t handle any big life decisions, it’s tech!   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Episode 12 - "Publicity" : Secondhand White Baby SMASH

    20/05/2019 Duration: 01h52min

Here it is. The big one. We've been alluding to a certain number in this episode and it's finally here. Join us as we journey through a deep, nuanced discussion of cultural appropriation as we cover episode 12: Publicity. You can also stick around for: another great Ivy number, more vegetables, and Cameron fighting for the rights of peanut-allergy sufferers everywhere. Grab your gal pal, and listen to our episode that seems to last for a thousand and one nights!   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Episode 11 - "The Movie Star" : SMASH Deep

    13/05/2019 Duration: 01h21min

Girl, this is an interesting episode this week. Episode 11, The Movie Star, naturally features a lot of Uma Thurman, which we love (for now), but also Dig Deep, which we hate. Featuring the return of Marilyn hallucinations, and a clip from Rebecca's newest movie, there is a lot to love in this episode. This episode also features our very uninformed predictions for this Tony's Best Musical race (we're sorry in advance). Grab your loose bread/chunky clam chowder, and get ready for some justification, improvisation, plus some emotional masturbation.   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Episode 10 - "Understudy" : Don't Say SMASH Until I Finish Talking

    06/05/2019 Duration: 01h43min

As we continue to anxiously await Uma Thurman’s arrival, we cover episode 10: Understudy. This episode features a prominent return of the Marilyn hallucinations, some questionable Spanish from Eileen, and finally another original song we really like (thank God). Join as we finally complete the arduous task of Googling what the hell Three on a Match actually means. Can you believe their lead actress doesn’t know what downstage means?   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Bonus - Top 5 Tony Performances

    01/05/2019 Duration: 01h38min

In honour of Tony nominations being released yesterday, Ray and Cameron take a trip down memory lane and discuss their top 5 (or top 7 if you include honourable mentions) Tony performances of all time. Here are the links to the videos so you can watch along as you’re listening:   Cameron Honourable Mention 1 Honourable Mention 2 Number 5 Number 4 Number 3 Number 2 Number 1   Ray Honourable Mention 1 Honourable Mention 2 Number 5 Number 4 Number 3 Number 2 Number 1   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Episode 9 - "Hell On Earth" : The Higher You SMASH, the Farther the Fall

    29/04/2019 Duration: 01h10min

This episode’s not quite as intense as last week’s, but we still had lots of fun recapping episode 9: Hell on Earth. It features one of our favourite Ivy/Karen moments, Frank discovering Julia’s secret, and John’s brave coming out to Tom. Drugs, street performers, punches to the face, Ellis diving headfirst into the scandalous side of showbiz, this episode has it all. Put on your angel costume and meet us at the pearly gates (I hear Norbert Leo Butz is performing there)!   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Episode 8 - "The Coup" : SMASH Me

    22/04/2019 Duration: 01h42min

This one's even longer than our Let's Be Bad episode, because we have a lot to cover when we recap episode 8: The Coup. The episode features a lovely guest appearance by Meryl Streep's daughter, a surprisingly large number of law-related scenes, and Cameron's Tony-award winning reenactment of one of the most uncomfortable fights put to screen. We go in hard on the Derek/Tom dynamic and the homophobia found therein, and what it means to be a gay man worshipping a dive (both very fun, easy to talk about topics). Don't get too mad at us for how much we hate this episode's original song.   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1

  • Episode 7 - "The Workshop" : On Lexington and SMASH Street

    15/04/2019 Duration: 01h34min

Everything’s coming up Bernadette on this episode of Mr. and Mr. SMASH where we recap episode 7: The Workshop. This episode has a lot, but it basically falls into two categories: yucky Micheal/Julia relationship stuff and Bernadette Peters. This episode also features a rare glimpse into our opinions on the musical Cats, so there’s that. Hot off of his earth-shattering rendition of Let’s Be Bad, Cameron sings more in this one. Apparently some do like it hot!   Follow us on Twitter at MrandMrSMASH1
