General Gridiron

Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Oklahoma are the Final Four of college football.  On this final General Gridiron of 2017, the General picks the semifinal and CFP National Championship winners.  Also, who wins the Peach, Outback, Cotton, Music City and Orange bowls?

Bowl Picks, Part I.  Southern Miss and Florida State duel in Shreveport, Arkansas State and Middle Tennessee meet at the Camellia Bowl, and Florida Atlantic stays at home to play Akron in the Boca Raton Bowl.  Plus, we have the Rapid Fire Picks of several minor bowl contests.

Championship Saturday.  Auburn and Georgia meet for the SEC Crown; Clemson and Miami rendezvous in Charlotte for ACC glory; Wisconsin seeks perfection and a Big Ten title versus Ohio State; and SWAC rivals Alcorn State and Grambling State go for the conference crown in Houston.

Rivalry Week includes a monster Iron Bowl, with Alabama and Auburn both chasing CFP greatness.  ACC-SEC feuds include Louisville at Kentucky, Florida State at Florida, Georgia at Georgia Tech, and Clemson at South Carolina.  Also, Washington and Washington State clash for the Apple Cup.

Cupcake Weekend 2017.  Alabama, Clemson and others are taking FCS breathers, but a few games of note are going on this Week 12: Michigan at undefeated Wisconsin, Kentucky goes "Between the Hedges," SMU races to Memphis, and the Shula Bowl features FIU at Florida Atlantic.

Veterans Day 2017 features hapless Florida State at Clemson, Alabama traveling to Mississippi State, and TCU in Norman to face Oklahoma.  Week 11 also includes Michigan State at Ohio State, Washington State versus Utah, and No. 1 Georgia heading to the Plains to tackle rival Auburn.

Week 10 includes Bedlam: Oklahoma at Oklahoma State.  N.C. State and Clemson rendezvous in the Textile Bowl, and the ACC Atlantic race will likely be decided.  Plus, LSU visits No. 1 Alabama, The American powers UCF and SMU meet, and South Carolina plays "Between the Hedges."

Halloween Weekend is here and several teams want to put the scare on the favored opponent.  Will the Gators surprise the Dawgs?  Also, the General picks the winner of Georgia Tech-Clemson, Washington State-Arizona, Mississippi State-Texas A&M...and Week 9's biggest battle, Penn State-Ohio State.

Week 8 features USC and Notre Dame battling for the Jeweled Shillelagh.  Tennessee and Alabama meet in the "Third Saturday In October" rivalry.  Plus, South Florida heads to Tulane, upstart Syracuse visits Miami, and Coach Orgeron and the Bayou Bengals return to Ole Miss.

Georgia Tech and No. 11 Miami highlight the weekend in a battle for ACC Coastal supremacy.  Also during this Week 7 wild weekend, Texas aims to give Oklahoma an embarrassing loss for a second straight Saturday, Washington and Arizona State collide in the desert, and Arkansas can only hope at Alabama.

Week 6 features Miami and Florida State finally getting together on the gridiron.  No. 1 Alabama aims for perfection at Texas A&M, Penn State visits Northwestern, upstart UCF heads for Cincinnati, and Mike Leach's Washington State Cougars invade Oregon's Autzen Stadium.

Hokie, Hokie, Hi Upset?  Yes, Virginia Tech aims to beat No. 2 Clemson this Week 5.  Also, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State have a West Texas gunfight, UCLA hosts Colorado, Indiana invades Happy Valley, and Georgia looks for revenge on Rocky Top.

Undefeated teams litter the landscape, but this Week 4 will be the Waterloo for many of them.  Georgia and Mississippi State tangle between the hedges, Cal hosts USC, TCU hops into Oklahoma State, and Vanderbilt looks to upset No. 1 Alabama.  Also, N.C. State looks to bite Florida State at The Doak.

Undefeateds Louisville and Clemson meet for a spot at ACC and national prominence.  Also in Week 3, the Oklahoma State Cowboys travel to Pitt, Ole Miss journeys to Cal, Kentucky opens SEC play at South Carolina, and SMU and TCU have their annual Iron Skillet Battle.

Ohio State hosts Oklahoma in a Week 2 clash at The Horseshoe.  South Carolina and Missouri start SEC play against each other, while Clemson and Auburn will try and sneak a contest in before Hurricane Irma hits the Southeast.  Also, Tulane visits Navy; and Nebraska and Oregon tangle in Eugene.

Week 1, and the General is ready to give you the scoop on Saturday's Mercedes-Benz Stadium opener featuring Alabama and Florida State.  Another Labor Day weekend contest inside Atlanta's newest building features Georgia Tech and Tennessee on Monday night.  And the Cardinals of Louisville travel I-65 to Indy to face Purdue.

Bowl Picks, Part II.  The General has your CFP semifinals and national championship game projections.  Will the Tide roll to a 17th title?  Other bowl games to watch for: TCU-Georgia in the Liberty Bowl, USC-Penn State in the Rose Bowl, and Arkansas-Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl.

Bowl Picks, Part I.  The General takes a stab at the lineup of lousy bowls, including 5-7 Mississippi State's berth in the St. Petersburg Bowl.  Also, .500 teams Louisiana-Lafayette and Southern Miss tangle in the New Orleans Bowl, while average squads Vanderbilt and N.C. State meet Dec. 26 in the Independence Bowl.

Championship Saturday.  Wisconsin and Penn State duel for the Big Ten crown, while Ohio State watches at home.  Clemson and Virginia Tech meet in Orlando, familiar foes Alabama and Florida convene in Atlanta, while Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky decide which team reigns supreme in C-USA.  Plus, we have picks on FCS Playoff second round action.

Rivalry Weekend.  Ohio State and Michigan meet at the Horseshoe, and the winner has a shot at the College Football Playoff.  Other bitter rivals meeting in this 13th weekend of college football: Georgia Tech visits Georgia, Tennessee and Vanderbilt collide in Nashville, and Colorado can claim the Pac-12 South with a win over Utah.
