Synopsis
"Cranford" is a short story written by Elizabeth Gaskell in 1851. The protagonist is the young lady Mary Smith who narrates in first person the daily lives of some single and middle aged ladies who live in Cranford, a small provincial town. The protagonists appear as holders of those uses, customs and tradition and the modernity of the nineteenth century was already wiping out. The group of girlfriends, tradition seem to preserve the best aspects, as attention towards other people. The plot flows smoothly through episodes of domestic life that Elizabeth Gaskell as always manages to transform into extraordinary events…
