Why does God's mercy abound towards repeat rebels and sinners like the Israelites as well as you and I? Because he is "a God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love." And because he is ever faithful to the covenant he made, he is able to abound in mercy towards us even when we are faithless.
