Canada's History

Historian Margaret Conrad was a member of the Progressive Conservative Students Society at Acadia University in the late 1960s when she witnessed a speech given by Tommy Douglas. This experience turned her personal politics on its head. “He captured everyone in the room no matter what their political affiliation was,” she says. To Conrad, Douglas was defined by his altruism and his belief that the role of government is to help create a better society and a better Canada.
