Art Fair Artists Success Show

Most artists have made their peace with the digital upload systems, www.Zapplication.org, www.JuriedArtServices.com and www.EntryThingy.com. If you want to participate in the better shows you sign up and upload your images for the jury.  But how did this get started and what is the relationship of the individual artist or individual art fair with these systems?
