Synopsis

When you learned that a Rabbi and three others were being held hostage at the Colleyville synagogue on January 15th, what did you do? Many people were glued to the news, watching the traumatic events unfold, fearful that the worst would happen. Others took some form of action, like praying or calling a loved one or friend to check on their safety or to offer support. Others maintained hope and focused on the fact that highly trained people were working to get the hostages out safely. How we respond to traumatic events determines whether we hold on to the trauma or allow it to move through us without getting stuck. Because we are all living with ongoing collective trauma resulting from the pandemic, global warming, violence, the economy, social injustice, and challenges in our own lives, we need to know how to respond in ways that add to the well-being of all people, including ourselves.
