  • S5 E2 Gettin' Some Things Off My Chest

    15/01/2021 Duration: 25min

Hey, I listened to the Cult Podcast's coverage of the events of the past week and felt compelled to get on my soapbox, with my limited understanding of politics and statistics, and put my 2 cents forward. I apologize to any claims I may have made because I don't have the information to properly back it up. We live in a unique time where the abundance of news sources, coupled with an abundance of different investor's interests, make it so one event can seem like the Hindenburg disaster, whereas in a different paper, someone will make it out to be "some of the more panderings of the lamestream media" and many very good, honest, and virtuous people unfortunately place a lot of trust in news sources I'm almost certain are pandering lies, but I can't probably cite or vouch for, because I'm just too lazy and put a lot of my energy into music, and feel it would be too much work to be able to find exactly how and why a source is incorrect. What I can say is this:When someone says "All Lives Matter" in response t

  • FMP 1st annual Lessons and Carols Service

    28/12/2020 Duration: 47min

An idea popped into my head the other day, upon reading an email by a composer, Brian Field. He had done a version of "In The Bleak Midwinter" but called it by Christina Rossetti's actual poem name, "A Christmas Carol" and it was quite nice, but the divisis and various other aspects of the piece, also considering the rushed time frame made it difficult to spring upon my volunteer choir at my Lutheran church job with enough time. SO----voila! I have a podcast which is just recorded performances, and great music for the sake of great music, so why don't I do it on that? So I did. Additionally I figured, if I was going out of my way to do this recently composed piece and it was difficult, why don't I juxtapose this with other ridiculously hard Christmas pieces and recently written works? So here you have the program.* denotes their video is shown on screenOpening remarksShepherd's Pipe Carol-John Rutter*Soprano: Katrina verse 1 and 2, Kathleen Monson Verse 3, 4, verse 5 (video just switches to Kathleen at the mi

  • S4 E18 "In Dulci Jubilo" Bach Chorale from Orgelbuchlein on Wurlitzer, lecture, and rap

    18/12/2020 Duration: 12min

I'm trying to figure out, when I don't have a guest to interview, a great way to challenge myself with utilizing all my talents and also keeping things family friendly. Here, I have done "In Dulci Jubilo" from Bach's Orgelbuchlein, playing the chorale, and then the first prelude based on it, then lecturing about it and what I understand and appreciate about it as a performer, and then doing a quick rap based on it as well. Additionally: here is a great virtual lessons and carols to check out done by Matthew Koraus from his church in Huntington, St. Patricks: Virtual Lessons and Carols 2020 - YouTubeI'll be doing a virtual lessons and carols on Dec. 28th, that Monday at 5pm which will be put on Youtube and Buzzsprout simultaneously.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/Famousmusicianspodcast)

    04/12/2020 Duration: 06min

I helped out Marisa Hickey with her college auditions! Here are some selections from that recording session, starting with the third take of Schubert's "Ave Maria", juxtaposed with a concert I did on Twitch on Thanksgiving of Couperin's "Les Barricades Mysterieuses" (related by key), and then segueing into Handel's "He Shall Feed His Flock", again with soprano Marisa Hickey. • S4 E15 Maureen Haley

    27/11/2020 Duration: 41min

I sat down with Maureen Haley, choral conductor and educator, soprano, and pianist to ask her some hard hitting questions about the intersection between being a mother and an artist.Bookending this interview are some Beethoven duets I played with her remotely---they are the Beethoven 'Deutsche Tanze", or German Dances. • S4 E14 Joseph Martin Twitch Concert 11/19/20

    21/11/2020 Duration: 26min

Hey! So I wanted to start making this more about performance. Get back to its roots. So here is an excerpt from a concert I did last night at 8pm! And here's my plug for it, if you listen to this podcast, since I don't want to publicize via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn, or any of that. I hate all of it, and even doing spammy emails feels beneath me, so just know this: as of right now (I might change it in the far future), I'm playing, every Thursday, a concert on Twitch of varying genres. Here's what this selection has:1. A Spotless Rose-Howells multi-tracked by yours truly, and singing bass in it.2. Bach E minor prelude from the first book of the WTC3. Faure's Pie Jesu from the Requiem4. An arrangement of a 2 piano Debussy arrangement of Saint-Saen's Rondo Capriccioso--I didn't have time to record the other piano's part, so I just made a one piano version on the spot.5. Tuba Mirum into the Mors Stupebit bass solo sung by yours truly from the Verdi Requiem6. Siloti arrangement of the same Bach E

  • S4 E 13 Dr. Ronald Oliver

    13/11/2020 Duration: 45min

Dr. Oliver is the Associate Director of Choral Activities at MSM (Manhattan School of Music) and the artistic director and conductor of Ensemble NYC, a newly organized choral ensemble dedicated to bringing hope to the people of New York City by offering choral concerts that are a place of respite and encouragement. They're fully pro, and I define that as every member of this group has great relative or perfect pitch, and, bereft of piano accompaniment or even a conductor, could sight read, from 85-100% accuracy, most, if not all choral music ever composed.
