Synopsis

Karma Yeshe Rabgye is a Western Monk in the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Originally from England, he now lives in Northern India. Yeshe spent several years in a monastery in the foothills of the Himalayas teaching young monks basic Buddhist philosophy and meditation. He now offers teachings freely to all in a manner that is unpretentious and clear. He does not demand students to blindly accept what he says, but instead invites them to examine their own minds and experiences to discover the validity of Gautama Buddhas teachings. Yeshe quietly demonstrates Gautama Buddhas teaching on compassion through the charitable trust Sangye Menla that he founded in 2008 in Chandigarh, Northern India. The trust provides medical assistance and care to people from the Himalayan region in India.

Episodes

  • A Sense of Self

    11/05/2018 Duration: 09min

In Buddhism, one of the most difficult teachings for people to understand is anatman or non-self. The doctrine states that in humans there is no permanent entity that can be called a self or a soul. This denial of “any Soul or Self” is what distinguishes Buddhism from other major religions, such as Christianity and Hinduism, and gives Buddhism its uniqueness. This sense of being a permanent, solid, autonomous self is an illusion. The problem is this illusion doesn’t fit in with our ordinary experience. We have a sense of a permanent, individual self, but that is all it is, a sense, a feeling. • Mindful Communication

    16/03/2018 Duration: 08min

I believe social media has replace our ability to communicate in an honest and thoughtful way. Social skills we once learned by having a face-to-face conversation have been diminished. We seem to have lost the capacity to be thoughtful and kind. We don’t seem to be able to give our opinions without being disrespectful to one another. This is where mindfulness can help us improve our digital communication skills. Support my work on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Understanding non-dual awareness

    09/02/2018 Duration: 32min

This is a special episode and is recorded live at the Prajna Meditation Centre in Northern India. It is a difficult teaching but Lama Yeshe explains it in his easy to understand teaching style. Our lives are built on assumptions. We assume the world is exactly as we’ve been taught and that our personal memory speaks the truth. For the most part, our lives are virtual, a projection of the mind. We’re so busy with our conceptual lives that we fail to truly experience the here and now. In other words, we overlook what is real so that we can focus on what is not. • Thought Transformation Part Two

    26/01/2018 Duration: 13min

The Eight Verses of Thought Transformation is an important text from Tibetan spiritual writings known as lojong (mind training). The root text was written by the eleventh-century meditator Langri Tangpa Dorje Senghe. These verses explain how we can see life through the eyes of compassion, and not through our self-cherishing ego. The more we meditate on thought transformation, the more compassionate we become. You meditate on these verses by reciting each verse and then pausing to contemplate its meaning. Then try to apply it to situations in your life. This will help you to truly transform your way of thinking and acting. Remember, these verses are to be practiced, not just recited. This is the final part of a two part series. Support my work on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • How To Reduce Your Suffering

    03/11/2017 Duration: 09min

In Buddhism, there is a practice called Mind Training and within this practice there is a section on reducing one’s suffering. Now, suffering here means a dissatisfaction with life, an unease, a discontentment and a feeling that life could be better. The following four methods are described in mind training as the best way to stop the suffering of all beings, and bringing them, and ourselves, happiness. Of course, we have to be realistic and understand that life is not always going to be happy, and it is an unsatisfactory part of life that suffering is always lurking around the corner. However, these four methods will help to reduce our suffering and give us the tools to be able to cope with whatever comes our way.
