    24/11/2019 Duration: 59min

On the morning of april 5, 1968, Steven Armstrong stepped into his third-grade classroom in Riceville, Iowa. "Hey, Mrs. Elliott," Steven yelled as he slung his books on his desk. "They shot that King yesterday. Why'd they shoot that King?" All 28 children found their desks, and Elliott said she had a special experiment for them to do, to begin to understand the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. the day before. Now, almost four decades later, Elliott's experiment still matters—to the grown children with whom she experimented, to the people of Riceville, population 840, who all but ran her out of town, and to thousands of people around the world who have also participated in an exercise based on the experiment.  What was this test? • 34 - Arthur Conan Doyle: The Man Who Killed Sherlock Holmes

    11/11/2019 Duration: 01h22min

If anyone brings up the name, Arthur Conan Doyle very often Sherlock Holmes come to mind, which is not the way Conan Doyle wished to be known or remembered. Nor does he need to be, because Conan Doyle threw himself into life with a vengeance, and though he remains automatically linked to his famous pipe-smoking detective with the deerstalker hat, there are countless other ways to remember this teller of tales. He actually took on the role of detective to get two innocent men freed and, eventually, succeeded in both cases.  He was also knighted for his volunteering to serve as an unpaid physician in South Africa during the Boer war. Doyle was a doctor by trade, but spent only a few years dedicated to this work. Most of Conan Doyle's life was spent writing, and not only about Sherlock Holmes. Did Doyle truly live the life of an adventurer? Did he really kill someone that he owed a great deal of gratitude towards? After he was knighted and was caught wearing a black trench coat while running around roof tops, wa

  • 33 - The Salem Witch Trials

    27/10/2019 Duration: 01h23min

The first hanging took place in June, the last in September; a stark, stunned silence followed. Although we will never know the exact number of those charged with working in the dark arts. We do know the number was somewhere around 200 witches and wizards who were named in twenty-five villages and towns. The youngest was five; the eldest nearly eighty. Husbands implicated wives; nephews their aunts; daughters their mothers; siblings each other. This is all just the beginning of the ridiculousness that went down in Salem all those years ago. What caused this histeria? Why was it suddenly open season on all accused witches? And if these witches were being hunted why didn’t they just fly away on their nimbus 2000’s and firebults before things escalated to quickly? Well find out all this and more as we look into the dark secrets of Salem, Massachusetts today on Brain Bitez. If you

  • 32 - Slender Man

    12/10/2019 Duration: 01h10min

The Slender Man is an alleged paranormal figure purported to have been in existence for centuries, covering a large geographic area. Even though there are so many stories about him… most still know that the slender man is based in fantasy.  If the stories of his origins are true and this elongated creature is indeed not real… then why has there been so many sightings? Why have there been kids that say they want to follow this imaginated horror to the point that two girls came close to killing in his name? And what the hell does creepy pasta mean? Can I eat it? • 31 - Jack The Ripper and The Murders In Whitechapel

    22/09/2019 Duration: 01h14min

Someone in London murdered and mutilated a number of prostitutes during the autumn of 1888; the press went into a frenzy, politicians pointed the finger at each other, hoaxers polluted the investigation, and one of several nicknames stuck: Jack the Ripper.  The Ripper's identity has never been established and people have never stopped looking. Unfortunately, the wealth of Ripper source material — letters, reports, diaries, and photographs — provides enough depth for detailed and fascinating research, but too few facts for any incontrovertible conclusions. Just about everything about Jack the Ripper is open to debate and the best you can get is a consensus. People are still finding new suspects or new ways to reframe old suspects, and books are still flying off the shelves. There is no better mystery. its a mystery we are going to tackle as we cover our final topic for our summer Mini Murder Mystery… today on Brain bitez. • 30 - H.H. Holmes and His Murder Castle

    08/09/2019 Duration: 01h21min

Welcome to part 2 in our Mini Summer Murder Series. H.H. Holmes would come to be recognized as one of America's first serial killers. But to this day, because of the nature in which he disposed of the bodies and his wildly inconsistent stories and confessions, much of the facts about his life are unclear. So is his death count: Police at the time suspected around nine or 10 victims, while other estimates are in the hundreds; in his published confession, Holmes himself claimed credit for the deaths of 27 people—but several “victims” were later found to still be alive. To make matters more confusing, Holmes took back his earlier confession while on the gallows and claimed to have killed only two people. Though it's nearly impossible to completely verify them because of Holmes's tall tales—and because he spun them at the height of the era of Yellow Journalism, when nearly everything was hyper-exaggerated—these facts tell the story of his infamous crime spree. So we are going to sift through the facts and fiction

  • 29 - Belle Gunness and Her Murder Farm

    25/08/2019 Duration: 01h07min

The tales of the gruesome murder’s committed by Belle Gunness on her farm at the end of McClung Road are the things of nightmares. The most disturbing part about these grisly stories is that the gory parts are not fiction. Belle Gunness (also known as Lady Bluebeard, The LaPorte Black Widow, The Mistress of Murder Farm, and Hell’s Belle) was probably one of America’s most prolific serial killers of her time, who likely killed between 25 and 30 people, including women and children, at the turn of the 20thcentury. She had many secrets buried in that land of hers and we are going to dig as much of them up as we can in this first installment of our 3 part serial murder series today on BRAIN BITEZ. The lobotomy was considered to be such a popular "cure" for mental illness that Freeman would perform up to 25 lobotomies a day, using only an ice pick-shaped instrument and hammer, without anaesthesia, while reporters would watch. Freeman's crazy antics didn't scare off potential patients either. While some were being forced against their will to take the procedure many were begging for the chance. How did the lobotomy ever become an accepted medical practice? Find out as we go under the knife or should I say pic and get our brains a little scrambled today on Brain Bitez.
