  • Juneteenth: Five Minute Friday - June 22, 2018

    22/06/2018 Duration: 07min

What is Juneteenth? Juneteeth is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans throughout the former Confederacy of the southern United States. A lot of people think that independence day was the day that Lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation freeing all slaves in 1862. However, the proclamation was ignored by the southern states that had succeeded from the union. Plus, the proclamation didn’t apply Texas, which was a slave-holding states but did not rebel against the union and as a result over 200,000 slaves were still in bondage throughout Texas in 1865. This week I did something totally different than I normally do here on the podcast. As I get older, I realize how impactful our life can be if we CHOOSE to use it to love others. So here’s my sole reason for the podcast today: I just want to ask you: Who are you impacting? • You can’t be a Christian and not love others. It’s an oxymoron: Five Minute Friday - May 25, 2018

    25/05/2018 Duration: 07min

This week I respond to an article that I read in the Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2018/05/24/the-group-least-likely-to-think-the-u-s-has-a-responsibility-to-accept-refugees-evangelicals/?utm_term=.721abd04e96a I talk about the fact that if you love Jesus, if you check the Christianity box as part of your identity it means you have surrendered yourself to love others. And even though the evangelical community has closely linked itself to the Republican party and to our current president in recent years, this podcast isn’t about Donald Trump or what political party you belong to. Today, I remind everyone, Christian or not, what it means to be a Christian and what that responsibility entails. Pew research from the article: http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/05/24/republicans-turn-more-negative-toward-refugees-as-number-admitted-to-u-s-plummets/ Five Minute Friday is something we do each week to keep you in the loop about what’s going on in the news. 11/05/2018 Duration: 07min

This week I talk about how your experience is not everyone’s experience! This week I hit on some things that may seem unconnected from each other in topic but they all made me realize how different our experience as “Americans” are. We are so diverse. Our lives are so complex. Our histories are so layered and different. And we all live and belong to the same country and in turn, the same community. * Five Minute Friday is something we do each week to keep you in the loop about what’s going on in the news. In this week's episode I talk about what happened with Nikki Haley, our Ambassador to the UN, this week. But more importantly, how we can learn from her mature response to being undermined and possibly embarrassed in front of the entire world. How do we choose self-control when we're hurt or misunderstood? How do we stay firm in our conviction to stay kind at all times? Take a listen to my analysis of Ambassador Haley's response to the White House. Five Minute Friday is something we do each week to keep you in the loop about what’s going on in the news. • My Conversation on The Landon Snow Podcast

    30/03/2018 Duration: 01h16min

Sat down with my good friend Landon Snow who is also the Senior Leader at Cedar House Church in Baton Rouge. We talk about relationships, communication, politics, social justice and how that all flows from my foundation of being a Christian. There have been some crazy things said ‘in the name of God’ over the centuries and I don’t think today's world is anything different. In the same way we can’t define feminism by the fringe groups that say hate men or shame people who don’t feel the same way they do…we can’t define Christianity by the Westboro Baptist church or people high up in the government. I am thankful for the opportunity to share why I care for and love people so much and how that flows from my love from God.
