  • 3.1 - GARFIELD

    30/03/2018 Duration: 58min

Well, after a long break we're back. There are lots of reasons for the delay ... the biggest one being we didn't want to release this because it reveals we watched Garfield (2004) starring Breckin Meyer, JLH and Bill Murray as the voice of Garfield (which he recorded on a boat). There's not much else to say except go check out Owen at the Comedy Festival.

  • 2.10 - X-MEN 2

    08/10/2017 Duration: 01h21min

We're back after a bit of a break. This time we tackle X-Men 2, one of the greatest comic book movies of ALL TIME. this movie is filled with many clawfights, literal wolverienes and magnet withholding. Follow us on FB and Twitter and please subscribe!

  • 2.9 - SPIDER-MAN

    12/06/2017 Duration: 01h20min

Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN (2002) is a really important watershed moment for modern superhero movies, so you would be forgiven for thinking it's really good. It's not *bad*, but it certainly feels very different to what we now think of as common comic book movies. Starring Tobey Maguire as the world's oldest teenager Peter Parker, along with Kirsten Dunst, James Franco and Willem Dafoe giving a BONKERS villain performance, this episode delve into the strange, campy world of Peter Parker's post 9/11 NYC.

  • 2.8 - TANK GIRL

    30/04/2017 Duration: 01h07min

Remember the 90s? They were great. So grungy, so free from modern corporate franchise culture. If TANK GIRL (1995) had been made today... wait, no it wouldn't be made today. It's the first female comic book hero movie - directed by a woman (!) - (Rachel Talalay) - and involves: 1. A Cole Porter musical number 2. Beat poet kangeroos 3. A pre-fame Naomi Watts 4. A bit of beastiality 5. Plenty of kick ass chick action (without writhe-foo) We can't promise it's good, but you should watch it anyway. Also apologies - we were so late getting this out, the MICF 2017 is over. :( Check out Soothplayers and the Improv Conspiracy on in Melbourne anyway to check out Owen's sweet improv skills.

  • 2.7 - THOR

    05/02/2017 Duration: 01h15min

What does the MCU have to do with vaping? We're glad you asked, because in this episode we delve into the seedy underworld of the MCU to its shocking vaping roots. Owen's pick this week is his favourite MCU movie, 2011's Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh.

  • 2.6 - Constantine

    18/12/2016 Duration: 01h05min

Imagine Heaven and Hell made a wager for our souls... Or don't imagine because that's what happens in this movie - CONSTANTINE (2005) directed by Francis Lawrence. This was Owen's pick, and the gang had a great time discussing this movie because, even though it's not a great adaptation of the Alan Moore, it's still a pretty fun movie with some cool stuff, especially in the final act. • 2.5 - LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN

    06/11/2016 Duration: 01h07min

You can always tell when Kyle picks the movie... This week it's Stephen Norrington's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen AKA LXG (2003) - welcome to the two-timers club Stephen! The movie that made Sean Connery quit acting, about a bunch of rag-tag...Victorian literary characters(??)...who save the world. Based on Alan Moore's long-running series of graphic novels, LXG is one of the absolute worst of the genre, taking a kinda interesting story and world premise and absolutely murdering it.

  • 2.4 - X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE

    12/09/2016 Duration: 01h14min

Look. We've talked about some bad movies, and this is no exception: X-Men Origin: Wolverine (2009) directed by Oscar winner Gavin Hood. Yep, the director of this movie has an Oscar. Wanna know what happens when a comic book movie thinks it's an 80s action movie? Enjoy! Strangely, Stef didn't *hate* this one, but the guys did. • 2.3 - SUICIDE SQUAD

    13/08/2016 Duration: 01h15min

In a TCA first, we're discussing a new release - David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD (2016). The movie has done extremely well at the box office, but critics have been less than enthusiastic. What did the gang think? Take a listen and find out! In addition to their opinion on the movie, Owen, Stef and Kyle discuss the state of the DC cinematic universe as compared to the Marvel juggernaut, Jared Leto's Joker and how "being Australian" is a superpower. • 2.2 - TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (1990)

    18/07/2016 Duration: 01h07min

COWABUNGA DUDES! TUBULAR! OTHER WEIRD 90s WORDS!! That's right, we've gone back into our 80s-90s childhoods to rediscover 1990's TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES - for many Gen Ys and Millennials, it was the franchise that started all franchises. This movie...isn't that great, but it does provide Owen and Stef a chance to be nostalgic about their Saturday morning cartoon routines. Kyle? Let's just say he was never as into the Turtles as he should have been... Enjoy! and follow us on Twitter @TCAPod and Facebook

  • 2.1 - BATMAN FOREVER

    20/06/2016 Duration: 01h10min

[Overacting Jim Carrey voice] WE'RE BAAAAAAAACK!!! After a hiatus, Owen, Stef and Kyle - your favourite weirdos - are back to talk about comic book movies! And we're starting the season with a bang: Joel Schumacher's 1995 camptastrophe BATMAN FOREVER. Is this movie as good as Stef remembers? Spoilers: No. Also somehow we went a whole ep without mentioning Kiss From a Rose and Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me. :( Follow us on Twitter: @TCAPod or Facebook. We've missed you, listener!

  • BONUS - SUPANOVA 2016

    21/04/2016 Duration: 24min

Yay! We're back with a bonus ep recorded LIVE from Melbourne's SUPANOVA pop culture expo 2016 at the Melbourne Showgrounds. Recorded on Sunday 17th April 2016, Stef and Owen roamed around Supanova talking to fans and cosplayers about their favourite comic book movies. We also caught up with writer and cosplayer Clem Bastow about what she thought about Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Follow us on social media, and stay tuned for season 2 coming soon!!!

  • 1.10 - X-MEN

    22/02/2016 Duration: 01h10min

PLEASE NOTE: The audio quality on this ep is a little sub-optimal, we were using new equipment. Our sincere apologies - we are working on it never happening again. In this ep things get a bit silly for no reason, which is probably not such a good thing considering Bryan Singer's X-MEN (2000) has one of the most serious and heavy opening scenes in CBM history. X-MEN is a really important movie in the wider canon of comic book movies: it really was the beginning of the boom, so the movie deserves respect just for that (and being probably the first actually good comic book movie since Superman II). Follow us on social media (@TCApod) and give us a good review on iTunes!

  • 1.9 - HELLBOY

    07/02/2016 Duration: 01h28min

We here at TCA love conspiracy theories - the wackier the better - so don't be surprised when this week's ep about Guillermo del Toro's labor of love HELLBOY (2004) tangents into talk about David Icke, Rasputin, cockatiels and all manner of weird stuff. It's that kind of comic, and that kind of movie. It's a fun movie, not flawless, bit with plenty of cool stuff to talk about. We hope you like it. • 1.8 - WATCHMEN

    31/01/2016 Duration: 01h20min

Huge ep! Zack Snyder's WATCHMEN (2009) is a significant comic book adaptation because Alan Moore's original graphic novel was so significant to the history of comic books. Once called un-adaptable, WATCHMEN manages to not be a complete disaster, but is still far from a great movie. It also contains perhaps the worst sex scene of all time, which we almost avoid discussing but alas the boys bring it up. Follow us on Twitter @tcapod, Facebook and support us on iTunes.

  • 1.7 - FANTASTIC FOUR (2015)

    19/01/2016 Duration: 01h23min

Brace yourselves for this one: The gang has tackled the 2015 disaster adaptation of Marvel's first family the FANTASTIC FOUR. This is a Stef-heavy episode, because she has had a mild obsession with this Fantasicar crash of a movie for the past 6 months, and the guys really had no chance to bring her back from the brink of Josh Trank's career death spiral. Also: Uncover Kate Mara's link to our lizard overloads. The truth is out there. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter! @Tcapod

  • 1.6 - BATMAN BEGINS

    12/01/2016 Duration: 01h17min

It's the movie that sparked a movement of comic book movies... the gritty reboot! Christopher Nolan made superheros cool and something not just nerds liked with BATMAN BEGINS (2005). In this ep the gang talks about the context of this movie, it's strength as an origin story, the significance of the Nolan Batman trilogy, and how it still holds up. • 1.5 - NICK FURY: AGENT OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

    04/01/2016 Duration: 01h02min

When you watch Marvel cinematic universe movies, do you think "Man, these are good, but would be even better with THE HOFF instead of Sam Jackson" ??? Well if so, then this movie is for you! In reality, NICK FURY: AGENT OF SHIELD (1998) is for nobody. It's a bad, B-grade TV movie, and Owen and Stef may never forgive Kyle for this. Don't watch it, but do listen to this.
