For Muslims, civic engagement is getting out there and fighting for issues that they hold dear to them and infusing them with their values and how they act upon them by simply being Muslim. On this episode, Dr. Aminah McCloud and Imam Fredrick alDeen discuss using civic engagement per the model of prophet Adam, as mentioned in the Quran, and his role as an educated person to participate on earth (i.e. becoming civically engaged). They further discuss what kind of knowledge civic engagement tells you to possess in order to be an effective citizen where you are in order to influence society in any positive way.

On this episode of 'Radio Islam', I had the pleasure of interviewing Wassim Hassan of 'Traversing Tradition' once again, only this time around we decided to speak on his experiences in the western academy and the traditional madrasa setting. We explore the differences between western educational institutions and their methodologies as opposed to the way sacred knowledge is disseminated in the traditional madrasa environment with Muslim clerics.

On this episode, Wassim Hassan, a recent graduate of University of Pennsylvania and current student at Darul Qassem, joined us for a fruitful conversation on the dissemination of sacred knowledge, and various movements in Islamic history. Additionally, we also dove into 'Traversing Tradition' an online publication founded in February 2018 by Wassim and others with the goal of addressing the most pressing issues of our time such as Islamic theology, Eastern and Western philosophy, and historical analysis among other fascinating topics!

On this episode, we invited Fahad Khan from the Khalil Center to discuss the stigmatization of mental health in the Muslim community, how to approach it, and in what ways Muslims can bring more awareness to mental health issues. Fahad Khan is the deputy director at Khalil Center and a licensed clinical psychologist. The Khalil Center is an organization that offers a wide variety of services including therapy, religious consultation, support groups, and workshops all rooted in Islamic principles.

On this episode of Radio Islam, executive producer Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid interviews Mihrigul Tursun, a survivor of the concentration camps in East Turkistan/Xinjiang, about her traumatic experiences and her survival. Mihrigul Tursun is a former Uyghur detainee in one of the re-education camps in Xinjiang, China. Tursun said that she was taken into custody several times, including at one of a network of political "re-education camps" and that one of her sons died under mysterious circumstances while she was in the custody of Chinese authorities in 2015. China's Foreign Ministry denied her allegations and gave their own account of the events.

Tariq (El-Amin) talks with Nareman Taha and Itedal Shalabi, founders of Arab American Family Services (AAFS) about their involvement with the 2020 Census. Currently, Illinois stands to lose $1,400 per individual, in addition to Congressional representation due to uncounted individuals. Nareman and Itedal share AAFS’s approach to assuage the hesitancy, and fears, of undocumented persons in the census taking process, as well as plans to have a Middle Eastern North African (MENA) box on the 2030 census. It's time to "Check in with Radio Islam Culture Contributor Layla Abdullah-Poulos (L-A-P)." Layla brings us two stories of offense and apology: 1) A reaction video to an African American man being arrested by a B.A.R.T. police officer, for eating a sandwich, posted by a crew of millennial, including comments by Asian rapper Amber Liu who said the AA man deserved it-- followed by her reversal and apology later; 2) a Somali Imam who said that most African Americans (Muslims) were the products of one night stands, and who also later issued an apology.
