Out Of The X Fire

Episode 1 is upon us. Dave and Ben kick off our new PlayStation focused podcast by chatting That’s You! and The Elder Scrolls Online. Talk through this weeks PlayStation news including people being angry at Quantic Dream and Sony, sales numbers and awards. They discuss Naughty Dog in a continuing segment spotlighting a Sony studio and Ben has a Playstation confession to make.

It’s Paris Games Week and Sony have thrown a lot of information out there and in their own words ‘E3 was only half the story.’ Ben and Dave run through the pre-show and media showcase giving their thoughts on the announcements, trailers, and the games shown. Also this is it. The end of an era for XFire and the final episode. But don’t worry as Ben and Dave will be back to talk all the Playstation news and views on a weekly basis soon with a new show, to be announced soon.

“Ohh, a week early” you’re thinking. Well that’s because Dave has returned and he’s raring to talk all the latest PlayStation news. We kick off with PSVR chat, games and units sold. Sony Music Entertainment has a new gaming label called Unties, odd we know. Horizon the Frozen Wilds gets a new, extremely pretty trailer and Star Wars Battlefront 2 gets a, extremely hideous, limited edition PS4 console. GT Sport is almost here (It will be when you listen to this) and we find out that the police play it all day whilst listening to Lewis Hamilton’s sumptuous tones to help in training. We end on Last of Us 2 news, which isn’t really news but its fun to speculate.

Whilst Dave’s away Ben has co-opted his Tanked Up co-host Aadil away from his work to discuss Playstation news. The news is filled with games, Octobers PS Plus games to start. Then to Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds on PS4, maybe. Horizon Zero Dawn is getting a complete edition which will be released soon after the Frozen Wilds dlc. GT Sport has a timed demo, get on that now, and Anthem will probably have a beta. Star Wars Battlefront 2 did have a beta. For the most boring news of the week Firmware 5.0 is live. We jump to PSVR news and a new headset and processor unit followed by comments made by the recently departed Andrew House on being the VR market […]

We discuss Dave’s time at EGX and some of the Playstation news to come out of the Tokyo Games Show. The games we talk about are Far Cry 5, Shooty Fruity, Sea of Thieves and Strange Brigade which Dave played at EGX and from TGS, Final Fantasy 9, Dissidia NT, Dragons Crown Pro, Shadow of the Colossus, PSVR, Zone of the Enders, Left Alive and Monster Hunter: World.

Dave has dedicated his life to Destiny 2 whilst Ben continues to weep over his stolen machine. After the barrage of Destiny goodness they get into the news which mostly involves a lot of ports. L.A. Noire, Shenmue 1 & 2, Vanquish & Bayonetta, Okami HD and Dragons Crown Pro are all discussed. We’re still down on PS Now and breeze over the new games added to the service before talking about the highs and lows of Destiny 2’s release and how Playstation 4 Pro and PSN have, or haven’t, coped with it. This is followed by more chart news, ugly PS4s, a PvP beta for Ghost Recon: Wildlands and a final descent into three lettered conference chaos.

We haven’t played much this week. Dave’s got no time and Ben doesn’t have a PS4 because it was stolen. A small rant ensues about Ben’s predicament which turns into love for Resogun. Dave probably won’t play it though with all the time issues he has. The news flows from PS Plus September games to PSVR price cuts, not for the UK, to new PSVR games. A table saw decides to join the conversation which turns to to crystal control pads, not for the UK, and Uncharted Lost Legacy, which was also stolen from Ben. Dave’s played Uncharted on easy! whilst Ben’s been playing Hellblade on absolutely brutal smash your face in difficulty. Also mentioned just a little, No Man’s Sky and the Atlus Rises DLC (expansion?). The news this week features all the autumn/winter games conferences, Gamescom, Paris games week and PSX, and the games Life is Strange: Before the Storm, We Happy Few and The Last of Us 2. Playstation’s European and UK social media also hints at a big reveal after getting hacked.

Ben and Dave get together to discuss a selection of Playstation news from the last two weeks, what they’ve been playing and add another Game to Dave’s list of must plays. There’s a little focus on PS Plus too after a rather infuriating email was received by those subscribed to the service. The games featured this week are Until Dawn (Again), The Uncharted Collection, Just Cause 3, Freedom Cry, Downwell, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and God Of War 4.

Xfire is back and with a new crew who run through the latest Playstation news and discuss a few choice games. This week includes Horizon: Zero Dawn, Until Dawn, Crash Bandicoot, GT Sport, Destiny 2 and Battlefront 2 (the new one).
