Novel medical technologies have revolutionized the therapeutic management of difficult-to-treat cancers. In particular, tumor treating fields (TTFields) therapy, which is a state-of-the-art, noninvasive modality that harnesses low intensity alternating electric fields to selectively disrupt tumor cell division and migration, has demonstrated clear benefits in terms of clinical efficacy and minimal toxicity in solid tumors. Approved for the therapeutic management of recurrent and newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) as well as unresectable, previously untreated malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM), TTFields therapy in combination with other conventional cancer treatments is being explored in a number of ongoing clinical trials in patients with a range of solid tumors, including lung, pancreatic, gastric, liver, and ovarian cancers.
