On this month's episode of Pastoralia, we take on a perennial topic in part 1 of a 2 part discussion: the Catholic understanding of parenting and the raising of children. This is a topic which is obscured and largely influenced by a cacophony of noise from modern pop psychology and pseudo-intellectual modern parenting books. We begin the conversation with a discussion of the child-rearing theories of the modern world and the inherent problems with them. Father will compare those to the Catholic principles of child-rearing and why the Catholic building blocks of child raising and why these principles provide children with the best possible chance of retaining the Catholic faith, saving their souls, and being productive members of society. We will talk about the issues surrounding the nursing of children, what is appropriate and what is not, the norms of modesty as it relates to nursing, and when the nursing should end.
