Doctor Who: The Web Of Queer

Ep 028: Changing Times

Informações:

Synopsis

In this episode of The Web of Queer we review the Eleventh Doctor story Closing Time, and then have a discussion on the status of queer rights in the 60s and whether that influenced the show.   For Closing Time, we talk about The Doctor and Craig’s relationship, both how they perceive it and the assumptions that are made by those around them. How does the writing subvert tropes that we are used to seeing? And how many times can someone change their mind about a story?   In our discussion, we examine attitudes and laws regarding queer people at the time the show was just beginning. What kind of influences would have been around the people creating it? What queer BBC characters were around at that time, and what did it feel like to grow up in that era?    Time Stamps: 00:00 Intro 00:49 Closing Time review 31:11 1960s Queerness discussion   Round the Horne (feat.
