David was developing encrypted cloud storage and messaging systems for organizations like CNN and the NSA when he discovered Bitcoin in 2011 and soon became active in the Bitcoin community as "JoelKatz". In late 2011, he was hired by Jed McCaleb to design and implement what is now the Ripple network.
