We have always enjoyed Kate Sanborn’s pieces in the Basement. She was the author of the 19th Century book ‘The Wit of Women,’ and was very much ahead of her time. In the years following the Civil War, women drastically outnumbered men in the U. S., and this went on for decades. Kate Sanborn examines this issue with her own witty outlook in the 1883 story, ‘The Conundrum of the Nineteenth Century.’ *Today’s episode was uncovered via one of the many GALE Databases that can be accessed through school and public libraries across the nation.
