James O'Brien is Darling James. Before that, he was Jamezboat – bassist, vocalist and songwriter in Brisbane indie darlings The Boat People. Going back even further, O'Brien was a rural Queensland kid that chanced upon a love of music and never looked back. The multi-instrumentalist has played with Kate Miller-Heidke, toured the world and been through the ringer both in a band and as a solo artist. Just after soundcheck at Waywards in Newtown, James gets into the finer points of classical music training, DIY touring and reinventing yourself as a one-man band.
