Samrat Ashoka was the third ruler of the illustrious Maurya dynasty and one of the most powerful kings of the Indian subcontinent in ancient times. His rule between 273 BC and 232 B.C. was one of the most prosperous periods in the history of India. Ashoka reigned over a kingdom that stretched from the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan in the west to the modern state of Bangladesh in the east. While initially he was infamous for his cruelty and barbarism on the war-field, later he converted to Buddhism and thereafter established a reign of virtue.    Hosted by Kanika and Rohit.
