This week's show focuses on some of the problems we encounter when faced with having to care for elderly family members. This is an issue that is particularly impacting a group of people who have become known as the Sandwich Generation. The sandwich generation primarily applies to middle aged people and even baby boomers who may still have children still at home or in college and whose ageing family members are over the age of 70. Many people who anticipated enjoying retirement instead find themselves caught in the middle of caring not only for their children but their elderly parents as well. It often becomes a juggling act that inevitably puts strain, not only on the caregivers but those being cared for as well. Our guest is Randy Mergler, an elder care and family therapist who helps families address and come up with workable solutions to this problem.
