Synopsis

My son experienced suicidal thoughts 3.5 years before his suicide. We thought it was all cleared up and fine. What we didn't realize is he'd just gone into a holding pattern. This is important for parents to be aware of. When a clinically depressed person starts feeling better, it's probably because they have a plan. Also, my father had died by suicide 5 years earlier. I was so traumatized I couldn't talk about it until now. I believe talking about my son's suicide and DECIDING that something good would come from it has helped me find meaning in this terrible event.   Another component is the overwhelming grief and fallout our family is dealing with. I'm now having to focus an extreme amount of time and energy on holding us together. So many families fall apart when something like this happens because they allow blame to creep in. It's important to let it go. We have regrets but blame and guilt help no one.   I've done a complete 180 in my focus. I've created an online course called Emotional Self-Reliance. I
