Eclectic. Whenever I see that word I'm filled with equal parts of anticipation and dread. To me, it means an art form based on a widely accepted model that has been heavily modified with the uniquely personal in such a way to attract as many converts as it manages to alienate the comfortable. This I believe, is the case with C.A. Smith. Growing up with a dad who worked at a top 40 radio station, C.A. was surrounded by the trappings and the wrappings of the business. Ever present in his burgeoning musicality was the formula for pop perfection.
