Beyonce, whom I know little about, decided to take an iconic country song and remake it. I go through Dolly Parton’s song Jolene to highlight the nuances you may have missed in the story and to show what is missing from Beyonce’s version. The original song contains an element that the Party hates. Why the need to remake Country music and into what? From that place, I look at art under the eye of totalitarian regimes.
