This week, Travel Today with Peter Greenberg returns to the sea, with a look at ships (ocean liners, cruise ships, riverboats) and ports. Peter Knego, Cruise Journalist and Historian, talks about the R.M.S. Queen Mary and other famous cruise ships of the past, with stories of some of the legendary personalities who sailed—and in some cases lived full time—on the ships. Julie Bartolotto, Executive Director of the Historical Society of Long Beach, talks about about the fascinating history of Long Beach, especially the port. Then it’s on to the Mississippi, with the American Queen‘s “Riverlorian” Jerry Hay. It’s all about storytelling, and Hay claims that while historians have to stick to the truth, riverlorians often weave a tall tale into their stories.
