Elizabeth Bear’s short story Tideline was originally published in Asimov's Science Fiction magazine in March 2007. The version I listened to was in the 2008 anthology We, Robots, edited by Allan Kaster. Tidelines won the 2008 Hugo Award and tells the story of a friendship between a child and a war robot.
