Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson

Synopsis

Room on the Broom is a British children's book by writer and playwright Julia Donaldson, and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. In this lightweight tale, by the author of The Gruffalo, a witch on a broom-ride is soon accompanied by a cat, a dog, a parrot, and a frog who have helped the butter-fingered witch retrieve her hat, a ribbon, and her wand. After the broom breaks, they then meet up with a not-so-scary dragon who wants to have the witch for lunch. The loyal animals form a chimera who scares off the dragon. The witch repays her friends by conjuring a nicer broom for them all to ride. The story's rhyming and goofy suspense aren't groundbreaking, but readers will likely find it refreshing to see a clumsy witch. Ages 4-8. Published by Dial Books. Room on the Broom has been translated into 21 languages and has won 6 book awards, and since been made into an animated film. The animated film was nominated for an Academy Award for best short animated film in 2013. This version was read by Skidompha Library's Ter
