A convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethpora (near Awantipora) in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The attack resulted in the death of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel – which is a paramilitary force - and the attacker. The responsibility for the attack was claimed by the Pakistan based Islamist militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed. A local youth named Adil Ahmed Dar was identified as the attacker. Within hours, the President removed Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister and appointed former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his place. Wickremesinghe has decided to challenge this unceremonious removal by claiming that he cannot be removed without a floor test in the Parliament.
