  • Teaching During a Pandemic, with my sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Hubrig

    05/10/2020 Duration: 33min

I’m sure by now we all know that teachers are bending over backwards trying to crush this whole distance, hybrid learning thing. If there were ever a time we need to take care of our teachers with love and alcohol, it’s now.    I really wanted to hear about learning during a pandemic from a teacher’s perspective, so today I am talking to none other than my own sixth-grade teacher, Mrs. Tina Hubrig. She has been teaching for over 20 years, and she has some compelling words to say about what both students and teachers need during these crazy times of learning.   You guys, the only way that this podcast can keep going is if it gets reviews. Please consider leaving one today, if you haven’t already. It takes about 30 seconds, and you don’t even have to stop listening to do it!

  • How to Create Your Dream Life, with Kelsey Murphy

    28/09/2020 Duration: 46min

Kelsey Murphy is a Business & Life Coach working with Fortune 500 companies, like Facebook & Twitter, industry thought leaders like Marie Forleo, and my personal favorite celebrity nutritionist, Kelly LeVeque.     She's been featured in places like Forbes, Business Insider, and Huffington Post. When Kelsey's not coaching you can find her hosting the Whiskey & Work podcast giving her wise (and sometimes comical) advice on navigating the waters of business, life, and relationships.     I’ve been a fan of Kelsey’s for a while because I love her real approach to motherhood and what it means to build a dream life. So many life coaches encourage us to build businesses and be entrepreneurs, and that’s not a bad thing, but Kelsey has some gold advice for us on how to feel successful no matter what stage of life we’re in, and whether we want to build a business or not.     When I was prepping for this interview I was listening to another podcast interviewing Kelsey about a ritual she does every week that h

Since that first interview here, Charity and I have become cherished friends.   Let’s talk about female friendship. It feels so complicated, right? It feels lonely and isolating and like we’re the only ones who don’t have their ish together, right?  I think you’ll be surprised to hear that we’re all feeling this way. Check out this rich talk between Charity and me.

  • Turning Your Mistakes into Confetti, with Maghon Taylor

    07/09/2020 Duration: 27min

Maghon Taylor is a bright ray of sunshine and I’d bet my bottom dollar that she’ll make you smile BIG at least once during this episode.   Maghon is on a mission to spread happiness through her handwriting. She is a joyful wife, fun mama, and owner of All She Wrote Notes, a calligraphy and hand lettering studio based in North Carolina.   Since 2013, Maghon's cheerful collection of colorful gifts has spread smiles all across America with their encouraging words and uplifting messages.   We talk about turning mistakes and hard times into confetti, the dark times that Maghon had to go through to come to this revelation, and her mission to turn the negative parts of motherhood into positive encouragement for mamas everywhere.    If there’s one thing I hope you take away from this episode, it’s these words from Maghon: You have survived your hardest days. Write it down,  say it out loud, make your own confetti, as it were. These are hard times. But you have - and you will - survive.    Now start smiling and enjoy

  • Your Blue Flame, with Jennifer Fulwiler

    31/08/2020 Duration: 44min

I’m on track to read 45 books by the end of this year, and Jennifer Fulwiler’s book, Your Blue Flame, is at the top of this list. I can’t talk about it enough, and I was honored to be able to chat with her about it. Jen is a standup comic and the mom of six kids. After being told that there wasn’t an audience for standup comedy done by a minivan-driving woman from the suburbs, she self-produced her own tour that sold out venues. How’s that for a “just watch me” moment?    Jen and I talk about finding your passion, how to figure out what gets you all lit up inside (outside of the roles you play), and that adding joy to your life is actually a FAVOR to your family and the world around you.   If you’re looking for an amazing read that doesn’t take hours and hours, please pick up Jen’s book. Whether you want more or you just want to drop the guilt and do something that makes you feel happy, Jen has such encouragement for all of us. I seriously can’t wait to read the book again…and again!

  • Belonging, with Sharon Hersh

    24/08/2020 Duration: 45min

I had the pleasure and the honor of having a conversation with my personal therapist, Sharon Hersh, about belonging. What does it mean to belong as moms? How do we handle being isolated and feeling lonely as moms?  Sharon has just released a new book called Belonging, and I encourage you to read it. Her calmness and wisdom have helped me so much. She is a special person to me; getting me through some of the darkest, and celebrating with me in the best moments of my life in recent years. • Raising a Child with a Disability, with Wendi Umali

    17/08/2020 Duration: 42min

Have you ever had one of those rare conversations where you really connect with the other person and it just sort of, transforms you? That was the kind of talk I had with Wendi Umali 10 years ago, and it has stuck with me ever since.   Wendi was speaking with her family at an event that I was attending and something drew me to her. I ended up approaching them after the event was over and we talked for almost 2 hours. She remains someone who inspires me greatly.   We’ve kept in touch on social media over the years, and I had the opportunity to sit down with Wendi to talk about her journey as a mom of a child with a disability. Wendi’s daughter Abbey has a form of Muscular Dystrophy which results in smaller, weaker muscles.  It presented Abbey with challenges from her early childhood, but that didn’t stop her or her family.   Wendi talks about her perspective on Abbey’s diagnosis, and shows us what it looks like to turn something that could have been devastating and painful into something powerful and amazing.

    22/06/2020 Duration: 43min

Cara Newhart is a DIY queen who is helping women create a beautifully lived-in life through home design advice and chic DIY tutorials on her blog called Never Skip Brunch and through her home design podcast, Make Space with Cara Newhart.   Her goal is to help women dive deeper than pin-worthy rooms and beat the "boys club" culture of home improvement to empower women to design homes they love, on their terms.   I smiled and giggled from ear-to-ear, chatting with Cara about my DIY shortcomings and admitting that I don’t know how to use really any power tools at all. She gives great advice on how to get started when home improvement and DIY are so intimidating, how to dive in with power tools when we don’t exactly always know how to use them, how to start projects, and which ones we should leave to the professionals.   We talk about what a Pinterest worth space REALLY is, the real versus the before-and-after we see on all those home design shows we all love, and intentionally designing our home for the season o

  • Talking Yourself Out of Thinking You're a Bad Mom

    15/06/2020 Duration: 52min

Kate Cartia lives in Dallas, TX with her son and dog. She’s a Work-at-Home Mom, is always the first to sign up to bring paper plates to school functions, and openly has no real idea how to do this parenting thing. She also believes humor is critical and lives to make her fellow parents feel like they aren’t the only ones winging it.   Seriously, take one look at Kate’s Instagram feed and you’re sure to laugh out loud. In our conversation, Kate literally talks us out of feeling like we’re a bad mother, or a bad PERSON, just because we don’t do things the way we think they should be done, based on our childhood, society, and all the other ‘shoulds’ that are thrown at us. We shoot down ALL the buzz words, and talk about how we set the tone for our families, ourselves, and the world around us.  We also talk about how it’s okay that not every moment of motherhood is enjoyable, and how we need to put ourselves first.    I expected that Kate would make me laugh and care less about what other people think, but she i

  • Racial healing starts here

    01/06/2020 Duration: 01h06min

What’s happening around us is not okay: The prejudice, the racism, it’s not okay, and if we choose to ignore it or decide that it doesn’t apply to us or say there’s nothing we can do about it, then WE are part of the problem.   Our kids deserve a better world than this, and if we hope to give that to them, it starts with US. It starts with asking ourselves some hard questions. It starts with loving our neighbor. It starts with talking about real issues like privilege and racism with our kids. We owe it to them.   I sat in my car and recorded some raw thoughts on racism and inequality based on recent events in America, and I’m replaying an impactful conversation I had with a powerful woman who is bringing change and healing to this deep wound in our country, with so much love.

  • Mom Friendship and the "Sister Joist," with Angel Hepp

    25/05/2020 Duration: 41min

Angel Hepp is the founder and creator of the Sister Joist community. You’re gonna love when you hear what a sister joist is.    Angel is a momma to 2 little girls, and when she became a mom for the first time she says she started a journey of figuring out who she is and not who she 'should be.’   She found herself giving her daughter advice that she knew she needed to take for herself too; like encouraging her daughter to be brave and courageous and to embrace all of who she was made to be regardless of the opinions of others. It was in those times that Angel started to see a stark contrast in what she was telling her daughter in comparison to the things she actually believed about herself. And over time, thanks to an AMAZING local moms group, Angel started to discover that it was possible to chip away at all the pressures she'd put on herself to be who she thought she should be and she could begin living in a way where who she was on the inside matches who she is on the outside.   Now, here’s the best part….
