As a coach that specializes in personal branding, I don’t believe that everyone should be on Facebook. Nor do I believe everyone should be on LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, etc. The fact is, before I encourage anyone to join a social network, I advise them to first evaluate “why” they are considering being part of such a public platform. What benefits you are expecting to receive from joining the network?

Equity is an asset. When you build equity, you increase the net value of your asset. People can create brand equity for their offerings by making them memorable, easily recognizable and superior in quality and reliability. But ultimately, the value of a brand – and thus its equity – is derived in the marketplace from the words and actions of customers.

When you sit down to strategize your personal brand, don’t overthink it. Most people want to create their personal brand by focusing first on creating a logo, design template and colors… Strong brands begin with thought; a vision and a set of core values. Brands come to life through a series of questions – and personally, I believe these are the best kind of questions because there are no wrong answers.
