  • Episode 14 | Jay Bakker: The Dark Night of the Soul

    04/04/2017 Duration: 01h23min

This episode, Scott and Jon talk with Jay Bakker. Jay is the pastor of Revolution Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which Jay calls unorganized religion. Jay's movement toward nontraditional ministry was born out of brokenness and woundedness. Jay is the son of Jim Bakker and the late Tammy Faye Bakker Messner who were popular televangelists in the 1980's and built the evangelical empire known as PTL. That empire ultimately crumbled amidst scandal while Jay was just a young boy. This experience led him to become a radically inclusive minster of reconciliation and the love of God for all people. However, wounds run deep and in this episode, Jay talks about his battle with depression and his journey through the dark night of the soul.   CONNECT WITH JAY BAKKER Twitter and Instagram: @JayBakker Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Jay.Bakker.Friends/ Website: www.revolutionchurch.com BOOK OFFERINGS FROM JAY BAKKER https://www.amazon.com/Jay-Bakker/e/B001HD02QQ   BUY A HOLY HERETICS T-SHIRT - APRIL ONLY LIMITED RE

  • Episode 13 | Toxic Tithing: Jesu$aves

    28/03/2017 Duration: 01h12min

Tithing is often preached in the Evangelical Church as a mandate for Christians, but is that the truth? Although Scott and Jon are both ordained ministers, neither are employed by the American Church. So, buckle up, because they are going to talk about tithing in a way that you will most likely never hear preached on a Sunday morning. In this episode, Scott and Jon discuss a lot of questions that many people have about tithing and, most importantly, whether or not it is actually a mandate for Christians today. 21/03/2017 Duration: 47min

This episode is the final installment of Scott and Jon's talk with the Pastor of the Resistance Movement, John Pavlovitz. The American Evangelical Church is dying. Many who are disenfranchised with the American Evangelical Church seem to be joining together to give birth to a new Church that represents more of the inclusive, love-filled Jesus message. There is also a lot of hostility right now largely due to the Evangelical Church's support of Trump. John shares his wisdom on these issues and how those who denounce Trump can still have love for all people while resisting and forging a new path. • Episode 11 | John Pavlovitz: The Death and Rebirth of the American Church | Part 1

    14/03/2017 Duration: 53min

In this much anticipated episode, Scott and Jon talk with the Pastor of the Resistance Movement, John Pavlovitz. In part one of this series, John Pavlovitz tells his story of once being employed as an evangelical pastor, but was terminated from that position because he "did not fit." Although painful and disorienting at the time, John's termination paved the way for him to speak passionately and unapologetically about numerous issues including: politics, LGBTQ equality, toxic evangelicalism, and the Jesus message. John Pavlovitz and the Holy Heretics not only discuss all of these topics, but also how the White Evangelical-American Church could overwhelmingly elect a President that seems to be the antithesis of all things Christ-like. It seems as though the American Church is dying and possibly on the brink of a rebirth; becoming a Church that is more representative of the inclusive, love-filled Jesus message. John Pavlovitz and the Holy Heretics discuss all of this and more. Read below to discover how to conn

  • Episode 10 | God Has a Plan?

    07/03/2017 Duration: 54min

For many years, American Evangelicalism has proposed the idea that there's an individual plan from God for each one of us. The American Evangelical Church has preached this message with great certainty. But what about the sufferings of life? Is that God's plan? What's the context of the often quoted passage of Jeremiah 29:11? Has this passage largely been misunderstood and misinterpreted? Is there a better way to understand the wisdom of the text and give us a new framework for understanding a Divine plan? Scott and Jon discuss all this and more.
