Starts off moody and atmospheric, moving through synth-disco, dirty tribal, latin and soul influences towards a shiny and uplifting conclusion with elements of a 'Chicane' sound in a lot of the keys, but always deep. The Teenzo opener is a real involver, T7 reminds me of the classic Tyrant sound and Baby Prince delivers an amazing slab of electro to finish. An amazing chapter in my life has recently come to a close, this is all about that.. A selection that is reminescent of the late 80's and early 90's which ascends from lo-fi, dubby and afrocentric into a bumpy garage influenced style, building toughly through some big chords and 80's influenced vocal into progressive peak at T10. This episode definitely heads off on a more involved, deeper tip, much more low key than the last episode. Featuring plenty of vocal and Piano elements around the middle of the mix. Most tracks are very recent, but I also wanted to include some older tracks, so 12 - 14 revisit some classics from around 2004. Some new releases from fave labels FreeRange and SoulShift as well as releases from labels that I haven't picked up on before such as Loco and Mare. Lots of tracks on this episode that have got me switched on lately, mostly new with a couple of older classics from jaytech and Axus/Rocco, quite a lot of vocal activity with underlying analogue bass-lines and chords. Slowly builds through a warm, sexy organic sound that develops into a tech flow at T8, with some lush sounds on 9 and 10, returning to a warmer deep tech deep house groove that finishes on a really rich layered track by Alveol. A collection of new stuff along with some great tracks that I had missed from 2011, starts off deep and light before dropping into the major keys with a standout track from Shonky, followed up by some lush 'Oldskool Chicago' style production and absolutely killer keys from Carl Taylor. After a very different breathy, almost poppy Track 6 and a wicked squelchy soulful vocal number from MaceoPlex. The mix then tails off into some gorgeously chilled dubstep/future garage treats from Eleven8 and Submerse, both too good to leave on the bench! Building slowly in intensity and tempo from chilled, lo-fi dubs through 80's soul, electro, tribal and garage influences into a full blooded 124 BPM eclectic Deep House Mix. I have deliberately tried to select a diverse range of material for this production and programmed a gradual ascent and blended mix style. I wanted the mood to be soulful and smooth yet still quite uplifting and ended up with quite a few Piano, Brass and Synth elements.. There are a few big tunes in there from TenSnake, Omar/Stevie and DJ Le Roi that I have wanted to include in a mix for a while, and they gave me a good foundation for the overall tone of the mix. The last tune, G-Pal's 'Life', Omar and Le Roi are my faves, really nice combinations of dirty chords and melodic keys, with strong driving grooves. I remember seeing Kenny using for most of his sets around the 98-02 period, namely Space at Bar Rhumba, Plastic People(W1), Soulsonic at the Annexe and I particularly remember the Friday night he played in the basement of Bar Solo in Camden and also recall him being on the billings for the opening nights and ongoing at London's first new generation super clubs, the ill fated Home and highly succesful fabric.. This was testament to how influential and revered KH was.. With the unique selection and style that he delivered, you never knew completely what might be played, but you were always guaranteed it would be good, different and delivered in a consumately professional manner.
