In 1846-48, during the Mexican-American War, a volunteer army formed mostly by recent Irish immigrants to the U.S. called themselves the St. Patrick's Battalion and fought alongside Mexico against the U.S. expansion and its Manifest Destiny doctrine. Mostly forgotten in the U.S., they are regarded as heroes in Mexico to this day. Previewing their show at Old Town School of Folk Music, Sean Cleland of the Academy of Irish Music and Sones de Mexico Ensemble join Mike and Tim in studio and share the story of John Riley and the San Patricios in song and words.
