As requested by you, dear Radio 1's Screen Time listener, it's time to talk about the John Hughes (and Steve Martin and John Candy) odd couple road trip Thanksgiving comedy classic Planes, Trains and Automobiles for this week's 'Ali Plumb's Film Club'. Joining us to do so is Sam Clements, who hosts the '90 Minutes Or Less Film Fest' podcast which celebrates all moves under that magic 90-minute mark - only this time, here on this podcast, he gets to talk about one that's just over, at 92 minutes or so. This is basically some sort of therapy for him, more or less. So look forward to that, plus your weekly dose of movies and TV new headlines and a whole load of waffle, just the way you like it.

The writer-director (Emerald Fennell) and star (Carey Mulligan) of the long-awaited black comedy thriller Promising Young Woman talk to Ali about their astonishing new film, touching on Britney influences, mood boards and the extraordinary reaction the film has been getting.

Regular Screen Time contributor Steffan Powell stops by to talk about the Ocean's films - all four of them, more or less! - and give us his thoughts on the new Knives Out follow-ups (what with him being a big murder mystery fan and all). Expect Ali and Steffan to say the word "slick" a lot as they talk about everyone's favourite heist comedy capers, as well as a mild rant about the disappointment that was Ocean's 12. Ah, the memories.

Everyone's favourite amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne - or is that David Webb? We forget - comes under the 'Ali Plumb's Film Club' spotlight this week as Helen O'Hara drops by to talk about The Bourne Identity (and some of the other Bournes as well, to be fair). All that plus the news headlines, some bonus Bourne facts and a whole tonne of mispronounced words makes up what is soon to be considered a classic in the 'Radio 1's Screen Time Podcasts That Were Released in April 2021' canon.

Our Ali resists flat-out asking Andy Samberg to be his 'new best friend' during this Story So Far interview in honour of his new time-loopy romantic comedy-drama Palm Springs, now - at long last! - available on Amazon Prime Video in the UK, nearly a year after those lucky Americans got to see it first in 2020. Expect nerdy SNL chat, nerdy Hot Rod chat, nerdy Popstar chat, nerdy Palm Springs chat and just a whole lot of general nerdy chat to be honest.

So there's this monster, right, called Godzilla. And then there's this other monster, right, called Kong. One's an atomic lizard-type-thing, the other's a giant ape. And in this movie, yeah, well, they fight. Like really fight. That's probably all you need to know before you watch it, but just in case here's some of the cast (Alexander Skarsgård, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Julian Dennison) and the director (Adam Wingard) to explain more in very entertaining detail.

It's a Friday edition of Radio 1's Screen Time, but not as we know it: yes, it's a super secret sushy spoiler special in honour of Disney+'s WandaVision, as requested by so many, many, many of you fine folk. As you may have guessed, if you haven't seen the show, maybe give this particular episode a miss and check out one of our recent interview specials, but if you're up to date, then press play and regret nothing.

Eddie Izzard stars in World War II spy-thriller-drama Six Minutes To Midnight, as well as co-writing it (no big deal). Legend of stand-up, unstoppable marathoner and self-confessed history buff, Izzard is on fine form here, despite seemingly not realising how much of a nerdy Eddie fan Ali is. Seriously, it's a wonder he didn't explode with excitement.

Tom And Jerry return in - would you believe it - Tom And Jerry, bringing along with them the likes of Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena and Ken Jeong. All three speak to Ali for this interview special, as well as director Tim Story, though we were unable to get either Tom or Jerry to talk to us for this podcast, though let it be known that we tried.

One Nicholas Grimshaw esquire joins Radio 1's Screen Time this week to talk about his favourite film ever, Bridesmaids - a film he loves so much he's even got a tattoo of it. Yep. No kidding. Plus, Henry Lloyd-Hughes drops by to talk about The Irregulars, the new Netflix Sherlocky show where our Henry plays - you guessed it - Holmes himself.

If you're an animation fan in any way, you'll be delighted to discover that the producer of Soul, Dana Murray, and the director of Soul, Pete Docter, are back for a return visit to Radio 1's Screen Time. Look forward to a semi-spoilery conversation about Graham Norton's voice acting superpowers, the big third act plot move and Pixar's ever-expanding back catalogue of Easter Eggs.

In this super-sized Friday edition of Radio 1's Screen Time podcast, you'll hear interviews with both the director and writer behind the new Disney+ Marvel TV series Falcon And The Winter Soldier, as well as Zack Snyder, the man behind, um, Zack Snyder's Justice League. No big deal. That's all in addition to a great Ali Plumb's Film Club with friend of the podcast Josh Horowitz where we talk about Fight Club, a film that's honestly really quite hard to talk about (without breaking the rules, that is).

Cherry is the latest from AppleTV+ and, well, the directors behind the biggest film of all time - that's Avengers: Endgame, by the way - Joe and Anthony Russo, giving The Artist Also Known As Spider-Man (aka Tom Holland) the opportunity to really stretch his acting muscles alongside the equally excellent Ciara Bravo in this drug addiction, bank robbery, army veteran drama based on the semi-autobiographical book of the same name. And by the way, please do get in touch if you can find a longer sentence in a podcast description. Ahem.

Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, Jared Leto. Three big names - three Oscar winners, no less - spoke to Ali recently to talk about their new movie, The Little Things, a '90s-set serial killer thriller directed and written by John Lee Hancock (who also appears on the podcast, to be clear).

Eddie Murphy - THE Eddie Murphy - spoke to Ali recently about his new movie, Coming 2 America, the much anticipated sequel to his beloved 1988 comedy about Crown Prince Akeem (Murphy himself) traveling to New York to find his one true love. Now, decades later, the follow-up has landed on Amazon Prime Video, and we can all return to Zamunda just one more time. Oh, and just to be clear: this interview contains strong language (as you may have guessed) so forewarned is forearmed.

On this week's Friday podcast, we've got a bumper edition of 'Ali Plumb's Film Club' where friend of the show and all-round excellent person stops by to talk about Best Picture winner Gladiator, the historically fluid swords and sandals story that left millions of people trying to impersonate Russell Crowe's gravelly voice for, well, quite some time. To this day, even. We've also got a short and sweet news section, as well as a tiny clip of Russell himself from his Movies That Made Me from back in the day, just to spice things up (and show off, let's be honest).

A new Disney animation is here, the first since - checks notes - Frozen 2 in November 2019, and the first one partly made in animators' homes and not actually entirely in the House Of Mouse. Here, Ali talks to its stars, Kelly Marie Tran and Awkwafina, as well as its directors, Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada, and its two writers, Qui Nguyen and Adele Lim and producer Osnat Shurer. Almost the whole gang, basically!

Daniel Radcliffe has a new film out, the tense prison break thriller Escape From Pretoria, and he got on the line with Ali to talk all about it recently now it's out on Amazon Prime Video. If you're not already in the know, he plays Tim Jenkins, the real-life South African political prisoner who managed to break out of jail in 1979 using - wait for it - wooden keys. Yep. So to hear The Artist Formerly Known As The Boy Who Lived talking about South African accents, acting alongside the man you yourself are playing, as well as what he's kept as movie mementos over the years, press play and regret nothing.

After Radio 1's Movies Week - where Greg James set Ali the task of watching as many films as possible in a week - Ali is back and normal podcast service can finally resume. Hooray and so forth. You've got the news section, where the likes of Tom Holland, Zack Snyder and Emma Stone crop up, as well as good ol' Ali Plumb's Film Club, which sees Mollie King stopping by to talk about her love of Valentine's Day favourite Notting Hill in exquisite detail. And okay, sure, there's a bit of waffle about the movie marathon too if you're into that sort of thing, but no obligation, honestly, it's right at the very end and everything.
